This plastic piece from Petzl is very useful for locking the equipment in place and preventing it from rotating on the carabiner, adding extra stability and security to the setup. I used it on petzle hmd carabiners to make sure it loaded in major axis.

The PETZL CAPTIV by PETZL is a plastic device that when firmly secured by the included metal screws (driver NOT included, torque NOT specified) is designed to limit movement of the carabiner through the opening to which it is connected. The purpose of limiting such movement is to help restrict the application of the loading to be applied only to the primary axis of the connector. Another purpose is to prevent the connector from interfering with whatever it is connected to, such as a PETZL I'D L descender / belay device. The CAPTIV does perform both of those connector positioning functions. However, it cannot prevent movement of the connector in the other direction (i.e., it mitigates side to side movement between the CAPTIV attachment points; it does NOT mitigate rotation around the connector attachment point). What that means is, if you're using the recommended connector/carabiner such as OXAN or BM'D with I'D L the carabiner can still interfere with the descender handle and mess up an otherwise safe configuration. I had hoped the CAPTIV would prevent such interference by holding the carabiner straighter and parallel to the descender's control handle. It does reduce sideloading risk but doesn't do much to prevent other entanglement risk. I will use the CAPTIV everywhere PETZ recommends them, which includes everywhere ANSI requires them. Any helpful comments on the observations of my review or otherwise are welcomed. Please post to help everyone be more safe!
