BEST Casterboard on the market!!! - Definitely Better than ALL plastic casterboards
Best Casterboard currently on the market!!!Better than ALL plastic casterboards and still plenty of room for improvement. The wooden deck on the Street Surfing Wave Rider casterboard is a major improvement over all plastic models; it feels much lighter, faster, and easier to maneuver. So, overall, it is the best product from Street Surfing that I have ever ridden. That being said, there are still some noticeable flaws with their current Wooden Wave Rider design.First, there is a lot of rattling noise. While the previous plastic models did rattle even more significantly, the rattling on this wooden casterboard is still substantial, making it feel more clunky and less smooth and more loud than it should be. I think the metal on metal inside the torsion bar may be to blame. Also, the sprayed-on "grip" provides much less traction that real skateboard grip tape...The coating over the sand causes my feet to often slide off of the deck (I plan to add a layer of real skateboard grip tape).Again, this board is a major improvement over any plastic casterboard currently on the market and I have ridden many. However, it is NOT the best (fastest, smoothest, most sturdy) casterboard I've owned, NOR is it the first wooden decked caster board I've owned (as the box for the product falsely advertises). In 2012 I transitioned from an original plastic Wave board to a TimberWolf XtreeM Casterboard, which featured a maple wooden deck, a SILENT fiberglass center torsion bar, and padded bidirectional caster mounts that:1) provided relatively smooth shock absorption (reduced rattling)2) Bi-directionality allowed the wheels to wear evenly (the back wheel on casterboards always wears down first and needs to be replaced very frequently especially when riding on asphalt)3) offered the opportunity for riders to perform various tricks.4) The TimberWolf also generally had much better thrust (more speed with less effort) than the Street Surfing Wave Rider. Perhaps due to its added length? TimberWolf XtreeM Casterboard Unfortunately, my TimberWolf board was stolen recently and the company has since gone out of business, so I have no hope of replacing it. My new wooden Street Surfing Wave Rider is a decent substitution, and it is not yet at the level of the circa 2012 TimberWolf, where I would like it to be.IN SHORT: The wooden Street Surfing Wave Rider does have a lot of potential, and, now that the TimberWolf is no longer an option, I think that this new product from Street Surfing is the best casterboard on the market. It is a major step up from the plastic models and I would definitely recommend it to beginners as well as experienced riders. I hope to see this product evolve into a smoother and faster board and I look forward to a version of the Wave that outcompetes the TimberWolf XtreeM.
