Q: Is the Velcro around the whole mat or just where the litter exits?

There is no Velcro. No Velcro is needed.

Q: will this work with pine litter pellets?

I wouldn’t think so. It’s for tiny pieces of clumping litter. I would think pine pellets are too large.

Q: What is the thickness of this mat? A reviewer mentioned it's too thick for a door to pass over it.

Looks to be about 5/16" to 3/8" thick. My door will NOT pass over it. The litter box is aranged far enought away from the door that it can be opened

the mat is made to trap litter that is kicked out when cat uses box or tracks out after using box .. you don’t put litter (sand) on it
