The product info is confusing. Does closing the cover change the switch position? I want to be able to close the cover without actuating the switch.

The switch is OFF, the cover guard can be closed. The switch can be turned ON only when the cover guard is opened. This is a setting to prevent misoperation. Of course, the cover is detachable.

is the LED wired into the circuit in such a way that it'd affect an audio signal?

The LED of the switch will be lighted when switched ON. Will not affect the audio signal.

So with the light wired to the battery, does the light stay on even if the vehicle is off?

If it is wired to the battery and the switch is in the ON position, the light is on, otherwise it is off.

This toggle switch is not waterproof.
