The inner circle of the base that must fit INSIDE the mug (or thermos) is about 2 5/8 across (diameter). The outer edge is about 4 1/2 inches wide.

Will there be a lot of sediment that gets through if I grind my coffee pretty finely? It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, just curious.

it is pretty good at not letting sediments to go through it, even it takes so much time to get the pure water through the filter. Thats is what i don't like.

Can the metal filter from this be used instead of a paper filter in the ceramic v60 dripper?

No, you can't. The metal filter is part of the filter and can't be separated. For the ceramic V60 dripper you can only use the paper filter.
