What is the two oval shaped holes for.???

I was curious about that myself after I received it - I think it might have been for much older receivers where the cable needed to keep the receiver connected to the data collector so you could fish it through the holes in the pole potentially? I slid the foam grip over one of the holes. One thing that I have noticed with the hole up top is that when the wind is blowing it will occasionally make a whistling sound. Nothing terrible but a minor nuisance I guess for those who work in windy environments
