Gould & GoodrichGold Line Three Slot Pancake Holster

Top of the Line
Gould & Goodrich has always been top of the line in holsters. I am a retired military medic, and a LEO. So I always wore a pistol for most of my life. Most holsters I hated, especially the Army's and duty holsters. I just never would shell out the bucks to buy a Gould & Goodrich. Still haven't, my son bought it for me. It fits my 1911 w/ rail beautifully. Remember this is a "cocked and locked holster". This means for it to fit you have to carry your 1911 with the hammer back. Then place the thumbstrap under the hammer and snap. This is the way 1911's are meant to be carried. It cannot fire accidentally with a leather thumbstrap in between it and the firing pin and the back strap safety not held down, and nothing touching the trigger. When you remove the firearm to clean or such, lower the hammer with 2 fingers (thumb and index) maintaining a hold while your opposite hand squeezes the trigger to avoid accidental discharge. Simple Stuff.

very poor quality
Junk... It arrived damaged. It isn't because of poor handling, it is because of low quality craftsmanship. My holster came with the strap cracked all the way to the core of the leather. I was going to just try an exchange however, it only gave me the option for a refund and now the holster is $12 more than i paid for this one. Such a huge inconvenience and now back to the drawing board trying to find a decent holster and unable to carry my 1911 for another week. Will probably go with a Galco or something that is actually of good quality. Avoid this coated low quality leather.

WARNING: CHECK THE DEGREE TO WHICH THIS HOLSTER PRESSES AGAINST THE SAFETY!
(G&G should take notice, because design flaws which cause harm are the fuel of many successful lawsuits). As much as I wanted to like this holster, there is a design flaw that is very dangerous. When I carry my Ruger SR1911, I use condition 1 (cocked and locked. I noticed that when I pulled the gun from the holster, the safety was disengaged. So I unloaded the gun, put it back into condition one and the reholstered it - carrying it like I normally would but unloaded. Every time I pulled the weapon, the safety was off. The 1911 has a grip safety, the trigger is covered in the holster and I have trigger-finger discipline, so I was in no danger.I took the holster off and investigated. The SR 1911 has an extended safety from the factory. This holster's snap rests on the top-side of the safety - and rests against it. Even a little movement (say getting into a car) always causes the snap to press against the safety and disengage it - every time. I wondered if this was not just the fault of the extended safety (thinking I could go to a low-profile combat safety). To test this, I used my old government model 1911 with combat sights and small combat safety. While it did not disengage the safety every time, it did always press against it and move it around. It only completely disengaged the safety a couple times. Therefore, I can only conclude that this might be a design flaw - and a very serious one at that. It might be something specifically about the SR1911 (but I also checked my old 1911), or something specific about this holster (e.g., came out of the machine wrong) - and perhaps your 1911 will be fine, but absolutely check the way the snap presses against the safety if you carry in condition 1 (cocked and locked). This is a perfectly safe way to carry, but only if your safety is engaged. This is the one time I actually appreciate the grip safety - but even that is not active when you DRAW the weapon. The only thing that will prevent accidental firing is trigger-finger control in this situation. Under stress, lots can happen.I cannot confidently use this holster without modifying it. To do so I will cut the top strap off, as well as the back strap. I can finish the edges to match the shape and style of G&G's strapless 1911 holster. It is certainly well-fitted enough to do the job. Otherwise it is a good holster, appropriately snug, but not too tight. You should always check your holsters for function anyway. It is your gun and your responsibility.

Doesn't fit advertised brands
Strap was too short to buckle as review from Tim stated, returned it easy enough but huge waste of time. According to the manufacturer site its the right model...but still didn't fit Browning as advertised.

I was worried at first.
Jut got it in 2 days as advertised...quality constructed, and an awesome price. I was worried at first when reading pamphlet that came with it.....it says it will only work on 1911's in the hammer down position not loaded. THAT'S NO GOOD. Luckily as stated in amazon description, it was made to carry gun cocked locked and ready to rock. Otherwise it would be no good to tell bad guy, hold on while I load and cock my gun... Very comfortable holster to wear on strong side, even while sitting...cross draw seems to be ok too if you are riding in a car for long period of time or think you may have to quick draw your weapon.Overall a great holster, especially for the price.

great holster for the price
this holster compares well against holsters costing 2-3 times as much. it is very solid and well made, my gov model fits snug but not loose and the thumb break is situated perfectly for my hand.
