Definitely not for the beginning seamstress. While construction poses some interesting challenges, the end result was lovely. Also note that pattern is set for the shorter dress. If you want the longer one, you must add to the length and to your fabric needs.

Follow everything carefully and reread many times.
First off - I am not a beginning sewer. I have sew professionally and also have drafted many of my own patterns. I decided to buy this pattern, instead of draft my own, because of the makers first hand research with the original gown - something that I can not gain on my own.You must read through the directions completely before you do ANYTHING.BEWARE (and it does say this one place in the instructions.) that the pattern pieces you cut out are for the SHORT gown. If you wish to make the longer one you will have to invent the rest of the pattern for yourself by "extending" it. This is easy enough for the rectangular pieces, but if you are inexperienced you could face a few issues with the gores and the angles involved. Every pattern I recall coming across in my life is cut for the full length and has a shorter mark to cut off if making a shorter version. I hate to admit, but I did indeed cut my pieces too short and have to go back and do it over again.Just disregard the suggested cutting layout entirely because what is pictured do not in any way match up to what you are told on the pattern pieces themselves or in the instructions. The layout has you cutting things on the fold that aren't needed and cutting things that should have been on the fold, not on the fold.I am, because of this, afraid of what I will find when I am completely finished sewing the gown. The instructions claim that a 5/8 inch seam allowance is included, but on some pieces due to the discrepancies on the layout and pattern pieces themselves, vs. the instructions, who knows what I will find?Luckily I do these sorts of things without instructions when I draft my own patterns anyway, so I shouldn't need to worry about the directions, but as warning for everyone else - be aware this pattern is tricky and no very well put together. In all honesty, I do not think it is worth the price - not by a long shot. If you do choose to buy, be very, very careful as you work through the pattern. Good luck!
