Well built, easy to use
The Hole Pro X-230 is a well built tool that makes the task of cutting holes much simpler. If you are required to cut holes into drywall, you cannot live without this tool. It is also capable of cutting woods, plastics, and other materials. This worked great with my puny 14.4v Dewalt drill. The plastic shield does an *excellent* job of containing dust, debris, and flying chunks. Anyone doing renovation work or a job where cleanup is a big issue, this is a must have tool. I cannot ever imagine going back to cutting holes with a drywall saw. All of the parts are heavy duty and well built. The shield doesn't leave marks, the blades are strong, and the spinning motion is perfectly balanced. Do not waste your money with the cheaper imitations (~$50). Because the saw blades are adjustable, this can literally replace a dozen hole saws of various sizes. The only reason to keep hole saws is for specialty applications such as cutting metal or tight locations. While the shield is removable, the "bar" that the blades attach to is a fixed length.

Just works right. Better than anything else!!
I worried about spending the money but after the first few holes it was obvious this is absolutely worth the money. The hard shield keeps your gun perpendicular to the ceiling the blades cut without tearing up the wallboard the depth setting is just great when you have to cut just the wall board and not cut into a truss Just read and follow the instructions because you need to put the blades on in the correct orientation. You need to tighten bolts the way they tell you. If you do those things this is perfect had to drill 60 holes and not one of them changed size or was drilled in properly or caused a problem with my wall board can't recommend this any higher

Where have you been all my life?
Great tool at a reasonable price. Works just as you would expect and better. Quality tool that should stand the test of time. Quality blow molded the case is well thought out and was a deciding factor in my purchase (a tool like this is worthless if you lose the pieces or spend more time looking for a piece than it takes to complete the job). Case has a place for everything including tools needed for adjustment, one set of blades for drywall and other abrasive materials and a second set of blades for non-abrasives (wood, plastic, rubber, etc..). As with any circle cutter I have used it is imperative to double check the cutting size and to make sure cutters are same distance from pilot/centering bit. MEASURE TWICE (or more) CUT ONCE!!! And you will be time ahead. (Fyi my video was taken one handed from a ladder. With 2 hands this thing cuts even better)

Makes hole cutting in plaster easy
This hole cutter was worth every single red cent I spent on it. It cut 22 6" holes in 1" thick plaster and lathe and was begging for more, with almost no wear on the carbide blades. I went from struggling on a single hole with a milwaukee hole hog and abrasive 6" cutter to using be dewalt cordless drill and completing the hole in 10-20 seconds. Its ten times heavier built than the cheap crap version you'll find at the hardware store, and will last a long time. I intend to buy another set of blades just to have, but I suspect these blades could do another 30 holes or so in my plaster and still be capable of cutting. It made the job so much easier and was the best purchase I could have made.

Best Tool For Cutting Holes For Recessed Lights, Minor Flaws Easy To Fix.
I use this tool to cut recessed light and ceiling fan holes in the ceiling. The tool is exceptional in catching and holding the dust which would otherwise damage your lungs and make a huge mess. For that reason I have purchased and installed vacuum adapter (~ $25 from the same company) which can easily be installed after you drill a hole in the clear plastic shield (dust collector). My Fein HEPA vacuum sucks the sheet-rock dust during the drilling, making it easier to see the drilling through the clear plastic shield. For good results, use a low speed, high torque drill - you won't be disappointed - but it works OK with a cordless drill (although it tends to jam and sometimes damage the hole). To improve the operation and results of this unit, I have made some improvements: (1) I drilled 20 ~ 30, 1/16" holes in the clear shield (Upper Wall, All The Way Around) in order to reduce the vacuum created inside the shield until ceiling hole is cut and air gets in). This reduces jamming of the cutters into the sheet rock because the cutters get sucked - due to vacuum build up - in and pressed against the ceiling. These tiny holes I drilled in the clear shield replenish the air and dust which are much more easily sucked inside the vacuum. (2) I disassembled the unit, took out the marked bar - on which the cutters glide and fasten - grinded the tiny metal stoppers in order to take the cutters out and use Milwaukee Recessed Light Shallow Hole Saws. This saves tons of time and frustration every time the cutters have to be readjusted/set. Now I only swap the hole saws, no wasted time and frustration repositioning and tightening the cutters on the holding bar. Note: Only shallow, recessed light hole saws (I use Milwaukee) fit in. (3) The shaft gets jammed inside the plastic shield ball bearing, very annoying trying to work like that. I used drum grease to make it more responsive (help the shaft move smoothly up and down inside the ball bearing), therefore giving me better control over the whole cutting process. Next time I will lubricate the shaft/inside ball bearing with Teflon Spray or Graphite Spray. I love this tool, it is very reliable, clean and productive.

Spend the money, it's worth it.
I've had this hole cutter for over 5 years. I'm an electrical contractor and constantly cutting holes. I've cut many times in plaster and still have not had to change the blades. Best hole cutter on the market. I'm buying an extra one just because.
