Bought printer with multipack ink however pack doesnt have the gy ink?do i need to buy this separately? one in printer is finished

I think what it means is that you can store A4 paper in the feeders in the printer, so nothing needed to start printing. Printing A3 requires you to use the external feed at the back of the printer, and you have to actually set this up by deploying the paper feeder, then introducing the A3 paper to the feeder. It is an A3 printer, and a good one. Hope this helps.

Does 970 print black and white well?

No idea really. It depends on what you’re printing and how much black is in the image/text. Also depends on what size cartridge you’re using.
