~~ Our family's FAVORITE Billy Goat Gruff story! ~~
Having read this in our local library our son wanted his own copy so excited to receive this. Not only are the illustrations absolutely SUPERB the storyline is also fun. Wanting to reach the other side of the river, the littlest and youngest billy goat trip traps over the bridge first, dressed in a diaper. When the troll and his frog approaches it, it tells him that there is a bigger goat coming so being greedy, the troll agrees to let the littlest goat pass over unharmed. This happens with the medium sized goat also but the story changes when the big goat starts crossing the bridge. He's ready to fight! The last we see of the troll of him swimming down the river.FABULOUS retelling and highly recommended. Thrilled with our purchase. Thanks, Liz

Kindle version disappointing
The artwork was fantastic, but I purchased the Kindle version and was disappointed for $4.95 because the pictures and text were redundant on the pages like they had been scanned and didn't transfer correctly. It wasn't worth $5 for the quality of the Kindle version although the pictures were excellent. They were duplicated (the images) and the text appeared once as very tiny and hard to read, then on the next page was the same text in a bigger font and readable. This was the first time I had a bad experience with a Kindle version of a book. A shame since the book itself is outstanding. I had bought the Kindle version to display the book for my class on the screen using an LCD projector and my iPad, but it didn't appear as a normal book due to the redundancy.

... up with this story as a small child and loved it - one of my favorites
I grew up with this story as a small child and loved it - one of my favorites. I really liked the illustration of this book. So glad I remembered this story and that I purchased this book. BTW, I found the matching CD to this specific book (sold separately) which was a nice addition/option to telling the story. Now I can either play the CD or read it with my own narration of playing out the roles. Great book!

The good/the bad
Beautifully illustrated and really nicely sized book and a great value for the price. The issue is, its just not a great story. It's ok. So if this is a nostalgic book for you than it's a great buy. If this is not a book you're looking to relive for memory's sake than I'd skip it.

I have always loved the story since childhood
I have always loved the story since childhood. It is a classic of course. The pictures in this book by Paul Galdone are detailed and well matched to the text. This book is an excellent read aloud book. It is fun to change and act out the characters with different voices. It is one of the most popular books in my class. I highly recommend it.

The illustrations Are too scary for little kids.
The pictures in this book are really scary. I bought it for my four-year-old daughter thinking that this was a cute story to read for the bedtime. But one look through the pictures and I decided to throw it out. Way too scary for little kids.

" The illustrations on the front cover were great. However
As I read the story to my class of 20 children, some waited anxious as I change my voice to represent each billy goat. Usually I start by sharing the "cover page" and the "title page." The illustrations on the front cover were great. However, there was room for improvement: The Troll was a little frighten for some of the children.
