Some Brutal Realities Shown
What I appreciated most about this film was the portrayal of the refugee camps, the only thing missing was the stench & experiencing the weather conditions. We see so very little of the what actually goes on in these situations & known even less about the men & women who put their lives on the line in an effort to ease the suffering, bring desperately need food, medicines & other vital supplies to these places. The love story wasn't really necessary - although I like both actors very much. All the actors were good & played their roles convincingly. I would have much preferred for the film to have concentrated even more on the victims, the struggle get funding, of getting the aid to where it is truly needed & in time for it to make a difference. We get just a glimpse of how funds are raised, of the corruption, the bribes that need to be paid, that various organizations that want to use the auspices of the Red Cross or some other aid organization as a cover for their agendas. I would have been happier to have had a semi-documentary film where at the end, the achievements of a few that were saved are shown on screen. For all the hopelessness, surely there are some successes that make all these efforts worthwhile. We are shown personal sacrifices made by a few & the beginning of a potentially successful outcome for one small child. It doesn't show how fragile that improvement actually was - that he could still die because he'd starved for such a long time. I wanted to see the struggle to save these people. Nevertheless, it was at least an effort to show the reality of these situations however abbreviated.SPOILER ALERT! Don't read any further if you want to watch the movie without knowing how it ends. Of course it was a given that the lovers would be honorable as much as possible & that there would be no happy ending for them. Yes, the doctor "sees" his lover in their little girl . . . blah, blah, blah. A consolation prize. Would have been a much better movie if they had been shown as friends struggling to do all they could for the refugees.

Why only one star is the movie was not that bad??? read my review
The movie production, the story or plot about the problems in the social, political, religious, health areas and the wars stories are truth and they are actually happening nowadays, every year and since the world remembers, human beings have being fighting about land, water, religious believes, women, power, control, etc, etc, etc. That is clear, historical times are accurate, locations are and the performance were good also...but...there is the "BUT",,,,1. All the social work, all the money, all the donations, all the programs are so muddy, everything since the beginning shows the hypocrisy of the society and most importantly "the socialite" the rich people spending thousands of dollars to give food and medicines to other people that don't have any, but they spend maybe more than they give, in these kinds of galas and parties in which those situations don't really mean anything to almost or none of them.2. Hollywood is showing the problems that socialism, guerrillas, corruption not only in government but also in organizations like CIA, FBI, DEA, etc, are doing, not helping the people but destroying the countries and everybody in it because they want the money, power, control, and more wars. They are also showing the power of "GUNS" if you idon't have any, you don't have the possibility to defend yourselves from those corrupted groups at all. BUT ALL HOLLYWOOD IS ASKING WITH THE GOVERNMENT TO GIVE UP THE GUNS!!! TO GIVE UP USA TO SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM, TO ACCEPT ALL KINDS OF CORRUPTION!!! Seriously, what's wrong with that part of the picture???3. Then the plot was involving a love story that it was out of marriage, and then a baby as a consequence of fornication out of the marriage!!! What a beautiful example of a love story right? We all will like our children live that kind of love stories. We all would like to live that kind the pain, a horrible marriage and infidelity of each of all.Everybody sins, all of us are sinners, but why do they have to make it like if it was a good thing, and that love, is more important than the children that will suffer in the future for those consequences. That is not real love, that is selfishness and even more if you hurt others. In this story in particular husband/wife/lover all of them are a mess, husband cheating with his wife, then she cheats on him and then she has a baby with the lover while she's till married and she left her husband to save her lover. It is really messed up story.Nowadays there are not movies of encouragement, or movies that tell the truth and teach something good or leave a good thing, this movie, doesn't leave anything good and at the end, that's why didn't even collect a third of the investment.

Engrossing story
Enlightening and engrossing story. Although we see these scenes on the news often (maybe not enough) it brought the plight of refugees closer to home with an up close and personal look. The underlying theme was the (almost) unrequited love story between the two lead actors, Angelina Jolie and Clive Owen, and I'm glad that didn't have a trite Hollywood ending. I do think the actions of Jolie's character were a little over the top with her rescue mission when she had responsibilities at home... but it was just a fictional story and that was the plot, like it or not.

Took forever, but remembered
I liked the movie, I don't understand why there's only less than 200 reviews. I thought this movie would be more popular....I just wish that Clive would knock off the F%@K bombs, for it became unnecessary. Angelina made a great actress for this movie because it symbolizes her efforts in the real world. I will write that it felt like the movie was three hours!!!! After 1:47 i thought shouldn't this movie be over now?

Awful acting from Angelina....Really bad and unrealistic writing...So disappointing!
Awful acting from Angelina—a very limited range of facial/eyes expressions and voice tone nuances related to the context. Every scene seemed like a backdrop to advertise her face/clothes/lips. So disappointing! Feet water washing in the middle of the desert? Sex scene and smiles after the best friend's death, as if everything is all right after a few conscientiousness concerns of Clive and a few words of "wisdom" from Angelina? And so on.......Really bad and unrealistic writing...

Seemed unrealistic
While you're busy trying to save the world and strangers in war torn parts of the world you end up getting your best friend and your wife/lover killed, not to mention many others killed due to your presence there~ and also leaving your kids without one or both parents. Yeah, I guess people really do that. Just not anybody I know... Kind of seems a bit ridiculous thinking you can save the world by destroying yourself.

Love Denied
This isn't an A+ movie, but there is something about it, that keeps drawing you to it. Of course, the theme, of third world countries' suffering and lack of help, the scandal of governments and the atrocities are all true and made very realistic. The acting by the excellent Clive Owen, Angelina Jolie and others in smaller roles, whose names I don't even know, were magnificent I thought. The scenery, not shot on location was all so very real. I thought the screenplay was excellent, the story starting and moving forward, and a beautiful, denied love story. I think the choice of Owen and Jolie was superb, that you really believed them and forgot they were characters acting. I don't think that any actor, except Clive Owen, in his craft, could have looked at his daughter that way, at the end.I only wish it was made from a book, I could have read first, to feel their inner most feelings.

Good Film
I'm a massive Angelina fan so she can't go far wrong in my eyes. The story is good and alerts you to the problems facing other countries and those who try to help there. A good performace by Clive Owen also. If you're looking for a feel good film you won't get it here but for a film that makes you think beyond your own every day existance then watch this.
