The protein skimmer's collection cup is usually filled up with dirty water every 1-2 week. Because the micro-bubbles attract protein and organic wastes, then dissolved protein and other contaminants are physically removed into the removable collection cup. Once the collection cup is full, you can pull out of the collection cup to remove the dirty water.

Q: How many small fish can live in this tank

Yes, of course. The lighting can be dimmed for freshwater. It’s a beautiful tank.
