Fedco Indian 5 Gallon Poly Fire Pump Model FER501

This is the best thing to control fires in a pasture. Very rugged and effective. Highly recommend.

I like the quality and design built into the backpack pump making it comfortable to wear and easy to use. The spray wand is very high quality. I intend to use it, when needed, for spot fire control on our property during fire season. I live within city limits but there is a lot of open ground with no grass, shrub control that can easily catch fire, especially during hot, dry summers. We always had an Indian Fire Pump on the combine during grain harvest on our farm when growing up. It was always handy to used on spot fires starting from an overheated bearing and stopped wide spread fires.

Filled it with water and its on the back seat of my truck and after a month its leaked out all on my floor, CHINESE CRAP DO NOT BUY!!!!!!

I am replacing a WWII (1940s) vintage 4 gallon civil defense (CD) hand pump fire extinguisher. The Fedco FER501 is quite nice. It is lighter, holds more water & is set up as a back pack. I am using it for home/yard fire protection. We live on 5 acres in a rural area surrounded by woods and fields. We burn off parts of our small field every spring and burn brush from time to time as well as frequent campfires. I bought it a month ago and used it this spring when burning grass. It worked well as expected. Two cautions: 1 - since it is a poly tank it needs to be protected from fire - don't leave it next to the campfire. 2 - the pump is at the end of the hose in the handle mechanism - this will make it more susceptible to freezing compared to my old unit with the pump in the water tank itself. This is an issue in Wisconsin especially in the spring and fall. Overall I am pleased with this unit and plan to use it for at least a of couple decades.

Durable

This is an excellent product—this is my 3rd purchase. I was disappointed that my fire pump arrived without all the parts. It was missing the clip which secures the hand pump to the tank assembly. This is typically preinstalled but simply was not present. I would appreciate it if the vendor could send me the part so I can fix it or a tank with the clip installed. Otherwise, this product will be difficult to transport and manage and I will be unhappy. The brass hand pump (the expensive part) is working fine.

I am extremely disappointed with the quality of this Fedco FER501 Poly Tank Fire Pump with 5-Gallon Poly Tank. After limited use, the poly tank developed a leak along a defective molded seam. A fire pump is something you depend on when needed most. A defective tank seam means the unit cannot be trusted in an emergency. The pump itself may work, but the leaking tank makes the entire system unreliable. For the price, I expected far better quality and durability. A brand-new tank should not fail at the seam under normal operating conditions. Cons: Defective poly tank seam. Leaks during normal use. Poor quality control. Reliability concerns for emergency fire suppression. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this product. A leaking tank is unacceptable on emergency equipment. Item returned as defective.

The pump arrived with a broken O ring in the pump mecanism. The pump therefore leaked on the user. The O ring appears to be too large for its location. I believe it was an known issue at the time it was put together. Disappointing.
