From Booklist Like Spiders (2012) and Butterflies (2011), previous entries in Bishop’s beginning reader series, this book offers some basic facts about a group of animals while introducing a few of the more interesting members along the way. Each double-page spread features one or two startlingly clear, beautifully lit, and sometimes dramatic photos. The short, large-type text gives a sense of what lizards have in common as well as how different they can be. Like others in the series, this volume is confusingly similar in subject and title to an earlier book written and illustrated for somewhat older children, Nic Bishop Lizards (2010). While nearly all of these exceptional photos appeared in the earlier book, the text here is shorter and more simply written. Well designed for its target audience of beginning readers, this volume also serves as an inviting informational book for reading aloud to younger children.
