The book is boring, but I need it for class. I actually prefer Campbell Biology. This book is too standard and formal for me.

This is truly the crown prince of biology textbooks. I have studied biology and medicine for 46 years as physician and student, and I have never read anything to compare with the beauty of language and gift for explanation of the authors of this work. It is as if they are in the room with me with their concern for my understanding of the secrets of life. Buy the hardcover text as it is a treasure you will want for life. Thomas Weisman MD

I did not read the full description as I could tell by the photo that this was the book I needed, so that was my fault otherwise I would have given 1 star. However it shouldn't say "access codes not guaranteed with rentals" if you don't get one if you purchase a new book entirely. It's very misleading. Also the book arrived 4 days later than advertised and I did not get it in time for my class. Lastly book came with damages to spine and mild corner bending.

Doesn't do well in explaining some of the maths in the book. I found it better to look in other textbooks for this.

It is a very in-depth cover of the subject, and manages to highlight the import aspect of such a vast subject.
