Alienvibes 20W 2.0 Channel Multimedia Desktop PC Speaker, Black (S101)

I am a bit of an audiophile but not when it comes to my computers. My primary PC has a passable Logitech 5.1 system for gaming. I also have fiber optic output from the sound card to a Fiio E17 headphone amp and Audio Technica AD-900X open headphones for music which sound quite good.For my secondary PC (a home-built Hackintosh) which is usually used for tinkering I had the cheapest USB speakers I could find. I thought it was time to upgrade the speakers to something slightly better - my budget was $30 or less for basically throwaway speakers . I wanted pure 2.0 speakers as I have no room for a sub, and the AlienVibes S101 speakers were just small enough (4" x 4" x 7.5") to fit on my desk around the 27" monitor. For speakers without a sub you need decent sized drivers and I thought the 3" mid-range for these (as big as you can get for a small 4" wide cabinet) would be bearable, and of course separate tweeters are a must.Once I received them from Amazon I thought the Alienvibes looked pretty and were solidly built (I like the idea of wood construction). The buttons on the right side of the right speaker work well and are not loose. The S101 speakers took minutes to set - the right-hand unit has the built-in amp and the power cable and audio-in come out of that box (heavier than the left unit). The cables are a little short - perhaps 4' long. The speaker wire to the left-hand unit is also fairly short at about 4' as well, but plenty for my needs on either side of the monitor.The reason I am giving the speakers 5 stars is that the sound is vastly better than I had expected at the price, and much better than the Logitech speakers on my primary PC (and I am pretty fussy about sound quality when it comes to music). There is a caveat - I bought these speakers not expecting any bass, and I didn't get any. There is probably almost nothing happening below 200Hz (not surprising for a 3" driver) - if you can live with that then the sound is surprisingly clear and coherent in the mid-range and upper levels - vocals are great.SUMMARY:Well built speakers, great for music, excellent sound for the money but no bass.

I purchased from Amazon refurbished. One speaker did not work. Cracked it open and connected loose wire. I needed very basic sound for cheap computer and this worked as required. Knobs on side hard to use. No transformer. Direct plug in to 110 socket.

I am using these speakers for my 26" flat screen that had HORRIBLE built in little speakers with 0 bass. These are truly amazing for the price, if they last !Night and day difference on my tv!

These are nice looking speakers. But they are made to look like 2-way bookshelf speakers for a computer, and are actually a 3" speaker and a small plastic (tweeter-like) plug. They came missing the volume knob, which doesn't say to much for their Quality Control department (if they have one). And finally, when I contacted them directly for a replacement knob, I was notified that they don't even manufacture these speakers. They are manufactured in China and their company logo is affixed. I understand that this is becoming more common these days, but it kills AMERICAN JOBS!!! AVOID ALIENVIBE they're fakes...in more ways than one!

Ever herd of "you get what you pay for" it applies for these speakers. I paid $20 for them and used amazon credit, so they didn't really cost me anything so will keep them. I am also using them to listen to books on tape in bed at night, so I don't really need the volume. There is a buzzing from the tweeter on the speaker with the transformer in it, not detectable without putting your ear up to the speaker. Something I did because I wanted to hear if any sound at all was coming from the tweeter. If you want speakers to listen to music through spend the extra $10 and get something with a separate bass. I also have a set of Logitech LS21 2.1 ($30) and they are 100% better than these speakers are.

Let me start off with I had to downgrade speakers because the amazing bass reverb of my last speakers pissed off my neighbors so I went with something smaller, these. My first problem is the cord between the two speakers is too short so I am going to have to do some cutting and extending with a longer wire. The second problem is out of the box... they sound less than stellar. The key in Windows is to go into your device driver, enable equalizer and raise those lows and highs. Otherwise these sound hollow as hell. After refining I am a little more happy. These things look pretty for the price and are in wood construction. The plastic on the front just makes them look sexier. Pretty good bang for the buck!

...nice clean sound...works smoothly in higher volumes (I don't know the specs.) They sound good. I bought three units according to my...him...little world. quite nice...and now, I can listen...I think.

I was looking for weeks for the right speakers. I found them and they were priced right and are exactly what we wanted.
