Transparency, honesty... Hard to find! Sage advice-at last.
Transparency and honesty is hard to find these day whether medical care for human or animal. You know that feeling when you take your pet to the vet because they won't write a prescription for the ear infection without seeing them? and dollar signs light up in their eyes? and you walk away with a whole lot less money? and no prescription or answer about your furry family member's ear issue that you brought them in for but they found something totally unrelated to the issue at hand and would like to prescribe....Well this book will help you sort that out and your pet might live a whole lot longer and be happier not going to the vet. My dog tried to escape and I should have followed her clue. You will save more than the cost of this book for one visit. Thank you Dr. Busby!

Excellent book! All pet owners should read
Every dog/cat owner should read this book before taking the pet to the local city vet in big chain pet hospital. I grew up with dogs and they never needed more than puppy vaccines and rabies (required by law) until they got very old. After I got married, I became a dog parent again and was shocked by the list of things my vet recommended and almost forced me to purchase for my dog. Owning a dog in this city was going to cost me over $2,000 a year if I were to pay for everything recommended. I suspected most items were unnecessarily being sold to me, and this book confirmed my suspicion.

THIS MAN TELLS YOU THE UNVARNISHED TRUTH ABOUT HOW TO TREAT YOUR PETS AT HOME, WHEN POSSIBLE
This book has saved us lots of money, and our pets some unnecessary trips to the vet. Of course we would never jeopardize our animals' safety and well-being, but living in a rural area requires us to know more about pet care and emergencies, than those who live in town with a vet just down the street.Dr. Busby tells you what you can do to treat your pets in very practical and effective ways; he also tells you when it's time to take them to the vet. In addition, you get the answers to your questions in a straightforward manner, without unnecessary embellishment. True, it is not an academic tome, but who needs that when they want to quickly find out how to help their pet. We've gotten our money back a hundred-fold, literally, because we have had this book as a reference. It makes a practical, truly useful gift for pet-loving friends as well. We have given it as birthday presents to two friends and they have been grateful to have it on more than one occasion. We also plan to give them as Christmas gifts this year, where appropriate.

Thank you Dr. Busby!!!!
What an AMAZING VET and a down-to-earth, common sense book!! This man has many years of Veterinary service and is SO knowledgeable and common sense (which you don't see much in Vets anymore let me tell you). After finding out one of our Malamutes had Heart Worm, I searched the internet and came across Dr. Busby. After buying his book and doing more research, I called him and he talked to me! The Vets charge over $2,000 for this treatment and let me tell you, it's very dangerous for a dog to go through. Especially a large, male, unneutered dog. We bought Ivermec (?) and our dog is doing just fine! I'm so pleased with Dr. Busby and this book I cannot tell you. It's just nice to know that there's at least one guy left out there!!

Very good book for pet owners
This is a great book for pet owners. It really is like having my old vet around, he was just as down to earth and rational. The book is put together in a rather haphazard way, a bit less handy for reference, but I do think it's part of the charm. The book is written as if the old country vet is talking to you, in his own voice, sharing his experience and his wisdom. And lots of nice anecdotes. The book is a pleasure to read. The book itself is quite cheaply produced, cheap paper and print. But it's what's inside which counts. I am happy I brought it.

Common Sense Veterinary Suggestions.
As the owner of 3 large breed dogs, I've found this book to be useful and well written. It's refreshing to find a vet who is more interested in the health of my pet than in his bottom line. Like any medical advice, you have to do your research, however Dr. Busby's suggestions have reinforced what I was already looking into (less vaccinations/medications for my pets). Thank you Dr. Busby! I run a large German Shepherd page on Facebook and will be recommending this to all my 6900+ followers!

Pretty good book
The book was worth purchasing. It is full of common sense and good advice. His discussion about vaccines is what I've heard from other sources and you will just have to make up your mind about how often you vaccinate your dogs. I have a dog rescue/shelter so I have to vaccinate the new dogs I take in because I don't know their history and all dogs have to be up on the vaccinations as new dogs come in. I enjoy(ed) reading the book and I think the author gives good advice. I pick it up and re-read certain sections as I have questions that he covers in the book.

Great book..a moneysaver for pet owners
This book is an eye opener to the rip-offs of many of today's veterinarians who seem to be more skilled in marketing techniques than actual medical care. After reading this book, I can look back and now realize how many times I was "scammed" by some local veterinarians for unnecessary practices. Over the years, I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on veterinary care for my pets. Indeed, some of it was justified, but a LOT of it was not. If you are a pet owner, buy this book. It will save you money and will give you the knowledge necessary to just say "NO!" when your vet begins padding the bill with unnecessary charges and procedures. Sadly, many of today's "new" veterinarians are coming out of vet school being taught skills to scam their customers! Don't believe me? Then just google the words "veterinary ripoff the rubes" and you will see a website (terrierman) in which a columnist for "Veterinary Economics" gives a presentation to a veterinary conference in 2007 in which he "teaches" them about high $$ income for vet practices.Read some of the quotes he gives as advice to today's vets on how to get MORE money from the customer.Do NOT forgo veterinary care for your pet. Read this book and search the Internet for other ripoff scams of today's veterinarians. There are still some honest vets out there. Once you become more knowledgeable about today's veterinary scams, you will be able to find an HONEST and caring vet for your pet.

If you want to avoid high vet bills this is the book to get. This book covers a lot of minor things that cost a lot at the vets.

Special Man
I wish that he were my veterinarian. I wish that he would write another book. The book was honest and helpful. Dr. Busby is a rarity these days. Tells it like it is , cares for the animal and the owner. I would love to hear more of his treatment options for both cats and dogs.

How to Afford Veterinary Care without Morgaging the Kids
This book deals mostly with dogs. I have a cat, so it's not that relevant, however the veterinary information given is quite good. It's worth buying.
