swapped boards and soldered it in
The last one I tried to buy on amazon was obviously refurbished marked as new, and the laser didn't work. I don't know if this one is used or not, but this drive came fast, installed easy and worked. good result= good review.

There is NO way they test these
When disassembling this to swap the control boards between this and the defective unit I was replacing it was apparent that the main data cable that goes from the drive to the logic board was damaged. Upon closer examination there were the dead remains of some kind of bug that had been jammed in between the cable and the cable connector. Literally the smashed remains of the bug were coating 2 of the contacts on the cable and its body had been jammed into the female connector causing the cable to not be able to communicate. I cleaned this and got the cable back to communicating only to find the unit will only read basic CD's but not DVD's or Blu Ray discs. It may be cheap, but it doesn't work and it will waste your time

Worked but just so you know
It works really well and is working for the intended purpose it was bought for but had to make a few minor adjustments. FYI if you are buying this for a replacement game drive for your Xbox you will have to tweak with it just a tad

Original XBox One Replacement
I have an original XBox One and the optical drive would not play blue-ray movies properly, however DVD's still worked fine, and the drive would still accept and eject discs. Research lead me to this model of optical drive as the replacement.Unfortunately this is not a direct, plug and play, replacement. Microsoft has locked the optical drive to the motherboard using the firmware. Anyone that is looking to replace this drive will need to swap the circuit board that is inside the drive. 3 ribbon cables, 3 screws, and 2 soldered leads is what needs to be removed/replaced to do the job. I did the soldering with a butane soldering iron (I do have experience in replacing electronic components with a full 2M station and know what I'm doing.)This drive was a good value and I even liked how the seller put a note in the box warning the consumer that the circuit boards need to be swapped.

Worked for X Box One origanal
Used this to replace my malfunctioning X Box ONe disk drive. I needed to swap the drive board with the paired on on my old drive but there were plenty of YouTube vids showing how this was done and it only take 2 solder points. I have not very good at soldering and i found this very easy to do.

replacement for original xbox one
I replace the disc drive in my xbox one with this one about a year ago. Old one quit reading discs. This fixed the issue and was pretty easy to do, just time consuming and a bit of tedious labor. Happy the xbox works again so I don't have to buy a new one for the kids!

As described, but you can't just swap disc drives!
This one's on me for my lack of research. I bought this to replace my Xbox One faulty disc drive. The problem is, you can't do that because the board in the disc drive is married to the Xbox. So you will get an error when the Xbox tries to apply an update. But what you can do, is pull the guts from the original, leaving the board, and just replace everything else from this one! Worked like a charm and I now have a fully functioning Xbox One! This is a great buy if you plan on going that route, but don't think you're going to just be able to plug and play swap on this.
