I'm always struggling for extra USB ports, especially on the go, but my previous plastic hub overheated and stopped working. I know the brand D-Link, so I picked this up, and it definitely seems like a more 'premium' unit - metal doesn't seem to get as hot, but its still very light and portable. It also has an adapter to switch between USB-C and A, which I haven't used yet, but definitely useful and a gigabit port for wires - recommended!

This does not work at 2.5Gb unless you have a USB 3.2 port. If you have a USB 3.0 port then you are stuck at 1Gb. This is not made clear in the ad and is not printed anywhere on the box.

Some D-Link Hub were made in Taiwan but not this model, I am very disappointed

TL;DR This does not work properly on Macs - buy something different that does not use a Realtek chip. Details… This device uses the Realtek 8156 chip which is the 2.5 Gbe capable model from a range of RTL815x chips. First off, in Big Sur, there is a default Apple driver that will work but only give 1Gb speeds. D-Link provide a driver that claims to unlock faster speeds for MacOS 10.9+ and a separate one for 10.8 (Their website actually states that the MacOS install package is for iOS which also raises questions about D-Link and their knowledge of the Apple ecosystem) Realtek themselves do not claim that the drivers work with MacOS 11. These drivers may well work for old MacOS versions but they do not work for Big Sur (11.x) as Apple severely limited the ability for vendors to add their own drivers. What actually happens in Big Sur is that the installer package claims to have completed successfully but has in fact done nothing and you will be left still using the default Apple driver running at a maximum of 1Gb. You can see it has done nothing by reading the supplied uninstall shell script and working backwards to the files that should have been there to remove. They aren’t there. Enter Monterey (12.0) - Apple has now provided a new default driver and 2.5Gb speed are available with simple plug and play ease of use! Wonderful. However….throughout all of this there is another annoying issue. Less critical, but annoying; if you restart the machine with the adapter plugged in it will not be recognised on restart. You will need to physically remove it and reinsert it for the OS to recognise that it is there and start using it. Depending on your circumstances this can be extremely annoying. It is for me with my clamshell desktop setup. All of this is true whether inserted directly into my 2018 MacBook Pro or into the attached CalDigit TB3 dock. Simply avoid. (As of 5 Nov 2021 - Monterey out for just a few days)

Super produit USB-C, j’obtiens bien les 2,5 Gigabits avec la nouvelle Freebox pop.

Buscaba un adaptador de red Ethernet para mi MacBook y sin duda este ha sido el elegido. Ya disponía de otros productos D-Link y este está a la altura del resto. Es Plug&Play por lo que solo bastó enchufarlo, conectar el cable de red y ya está funcionando. No he hecho pruebas profesionales de rendimiento, pero en principio rinde como debe.
