Pros: - Blue parts are plastic but the compass still feels premium and it feels really good when using. - Unlike other metal compasses, the needle does not slip when you lean the compass as far as 45° while drawing. - Universal pencil holder attachment can fit almost any pen/pencil. - Stays accurate when putting it down, handling with different hands, and used in different positions. Cons: - Small blue screw of the universal pen attachment is plastic. For some people that part is constantly threaded & unthreaded therefore saving a few pennies in aluminum specifically there is odd.

Its seems to be good quality. Only complaint is the the adapter that holds the pencil or pen you put it, the little tightener on it fell out on me once and man was it a pain to get back on.

Great compass that allows you to attach fine liners, skinny markers, as well as pencils. Love it!

Worked very well out of the box.

When drawing small circles the arms would buckle where the metal meets the plastic. No matter how tight you make the screws it still bends inward making it inaccurate from circle to circle. A real pain in the butt and maybe what you’d expect from a cheaper compass. I will be sending mine back as it proves to be totally useless for the precision I need it for.

There is nothing worse than reading mixed reviews of an item and deciding which reviews are using poor judgement. The major complaint from the poor reviews are the screws won't tighten. If the screw was stripped, then they received a defective item but that's unlikely. Possible, but unlikely. In order to tighten the screw, one most hold the screw in place with the thumb, while tightening the nut. Otherwise, one will have troubles tightening the compass needle or the pencil. Once you figured out that piece of engineering, then you realize, it's not the compass, but the user. Given most of the compasses, despite different brands, are exactly the same design (then there is no avoiding this little piece of engineering) . The other complaint is that some of the compass is plastic. It doesn't require Einstein to examine both the marketing photo's, and the features listed at the top of the page (plastic and metal) to know what you're ordering. It's dishonest to complain that it's plastic after you ordered something that is listed as partially plastic. There is no play in the plastic and it's sturdy. There is a vast difference between, I don't like it and it is defective. Conclusion: Compass works fine. No issues with accuracy. You'll find youtube video's with individuals creating great geometric art with this compass. But for what it is, I think it's a bit over priced so I took a star off as well as not having any directions that tells you how to tighten the screw. It wasn't obvious to a couple of reviewers and I had to play with it to figure it out.

This is a very high quality tool made in Italy. An attachment that allows the usage of any diameter pen or pencil is great!

I've now purchased 3 different Steadler compasses! The first one needed to be returned due to a fault, the second one is great as you get a nice mechanical pencil with it for free, and I bought this because the compass I had was slightly too small to accommodate a project I am working on. This is just perfect - the extender bar is simple to attach, and it was great at drawing very large circles accurately. I love the lock function on it which again is really easy to use if you need to extend or reduce the diameter size. It all screws together nicely and comes with one spare needle and two spare nibs. It was great value for money, as I tried to purchase just an extender bar and they were really expensive, so it was cheaper to buy a compass set.
