Excellent Charger – Well Made and Packed with Features!
I’m very impressed with the NOCO Genius 5! Right out of the box, I could tell this was a high-quality product—it’s solidly built and well-made in Vietnam, not China. The packaging was also outstanding, triple-boxed for protection. This charger is packed with great features, including compatibility with various battery types, and it works perfectly with AGM batteries. I got it to maintain the battery in a car we don’t drive often, and it does an excellent job keeping it fully charged and ready to go.Setup was simple, and the smart technology makes charging and maintaining the battery effortless. Overall, a great investment for battery longevity. Highly recommended!

Excellent, design, material and build quality, compact and effective
At the current cost of car batteries, a device like this is remarkably cost-effective in maximizing a battery’s useful life for any vehicle that is only driven rarely or only for short distances.Simple to use and durable.

NOCO GENIUS5 compared to Schumacher SP1296
I've used Schumacher SP1296 trickle chargers for many years now, on multiple vehicles and pieces of equipment. Recently I switched all of them to the NOCO GENIUS5 and it's better in every way!On all of the Schumacher chargers I've had, (and that's been a LOT of them) the cord has eventually frayed and broken where it exits the charging unit. On the NOCO, the cord has a rubber reinforcement where it exits the unit, extending the life of the cord. I've included photos of the NOCO (black) and the Schumacher (red) for reference. The Schumacher chargers I've had were dependable and functioned well, but their cord design was a major design flaw for me. Multiple times, It forced me to replace the units before I should have needed to buy new ones. The NOCO is slightly heavier and more compact in size than the Schumacher. The control has more functions and is easy to use. The NOCO display is aesthetically more pleasing and easier to read than the Schumacher. The NOCO also has an on/off switch which is nice. I always use the eyelets to connect to the battery. The charger connection to the eyelet cord has a click type plug to lock it in place, unlike the Schumacher which just presses together. Should you want to use the battery clips, the NOCO clips are bigger and stronger than those on the Schumacher. The only negative aspect of the NOCO that I found was that, according to their user manual, "This product is designed to work in ambient temperatures between -4°F and 104°F". This has not been a problem for me, even when used outside in northern Vermont. It does get below zero here, but typically not for extended periods of time. As long as the charger is kept on the battery, and it's always fully charged, that temperature limitation hasn't been an issue for me.Overall, the NOCO GENIUS5 appears to be a higher quality and better built charger than the Schumacher SP1296. I am very satisfied with their product, and I highly recommend it.

REPAIR MODE // Compared to an older Noco Genius G3500; using for Solar/PV battery bank
Update (2/15/23): Used this 5A Noco on my car battery the other day. The battery is 4 years old, and the car gets drive at most, once a week, so not ideal for battery health. Once a year (annually), I try to charge the battery. When I hooked it up, and ran it in normal charging mode, it quickly finished (within five minutes). I switched over to repair mode, which applies a small pulsing current, and ran it for two cycles (repair mode shuts off after 4 hours), so 8 hours total. Using a battery tester (measures battery resistance), the overall health improved after 8 hours. So the repair mode definitely does something different than the regular charging mode.Summary: I have had a NOCO Genius G3500 charger since 2017, and it's a great charger. Recently started building a solar/PV battery bank from old marine (Optima) bluetop deep cycle batteries. So the G3500 was getting a good workout, especially the repair function. So I will be comparing this next generation GEN5X1 in that role. I had ordered the GEN5X1 back in April 2021, and this past Black Friday, the GENIUS5 (5A) was on sale, so I decided to add that one. Also use the Kyzee Load Tester frequently while charging, so listing this that as well as a related product.Testing: On an old really dead Yuasa motorcycle battery. Impressively, it was at 3-4 volts, and the Noco started right up in regular (not repair) mode. Going to let this run a couple of days, and see where it ends up (not expecting it to revive this one).Recommendations: 1) In general, the slower you charge the battery the better it is for the overall longevity and lifespan of the battery. The trade off being that you might have to charge a really dead battery for a couple of days. For batteries less than 100AH (the Optima I was testing on is 55AH), a 5-AMP charger is a good middle ground. 2) Having a good battery tester is also a must, I can recommend either of the two below.Pros: Good fit & finish; repair function; name brand recognition; constant product improvement.Cons: None for now. Conclusion: At $70, rating this 5-stars. If you need onboard mounting, get the onboard model instead.Related Products:NOCO GENIUS5, 5-Amp Fully-Automatic Smart Charger ~ $70https://www.amazon.com/NOCO-GENIUS5-Fully-Automatic-Temperature-Compensation/dp/B07W8KJH44KZYEE KS20Pro Car Battery Load Tester ~ $100https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0822CN7K7NOCO Genius G3500 6V/12V 3.5A UltraSafe Smart Battery Charger ~ $47https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LWVEKS

Effective but not intuitive
It's effective. I had an idle car with a drained battery & this recharged the battery so that I can now start the car without jumper cables. It did not come with instructions, so I had to find those online. It's just annoying because it's an extra step to making sure I use the thing correctly. The controls/buttons on the device are not intuitive in what they do or which setting I needed. It comes with way too much packaging. It's like an escape room trying to get the thing out. In the end, though, it did the job I needed it to, and I can recommend it.

Great little charger, indispensable
I have a charger about 40 years old. Very heavy and clips broken, so I purchased this one. What a difference! Very light, nice and compact, and has a trickle charger which worked great for a vehicle we were preparing to sell and was sitting around. There are several modes which can be handy.I would recommend this product.
