What Was Pearl Harbor?

Great choice of book for children to read and learn about Pearl Harbor.

The book talks about when the war started Japan started invading China and the United States told them to stop and back off but Japan ignored. Then Japan got their army and engineers and they planned an attack on Pearl harbor. They got lots of planes and sent them on aircraft carriers they also had torpedoes, submarine and they had a big army. They attacked Pearl harbor in the early morning and they had destroyed all their ships and killed many. They fought back about either way the Japanese won. Then in 1945 the U.S got revenge by dropping 2 bombs on Japan.

Love these books. My son, who is 9 has been reading them for a little over a year now and this book is wonderful. I must say that this one is not one of his favorites. He is a history junkey, lol. He so far seems to love the Jackie Robinson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, What is the world series the best as a 8 and 9 year old.I also read these to him in the evenings and I really enjoy them as a 40 year old father. I have learned so much from them as well. Sometimes I read them before or after my son in order to have an educated discussion with him about the subject of the book. I really also get alot out of them as well.

This series is great and give a fair and accurate telling of history that is age appropriate.

I love this series of books. Great for homeschooling. Great for young students. But also great as a starting point for people or things they want to learn more about.

Very good explanation of what happened at Pearl Harbor inn December 7, 1941. The author did a good job explaining what happened.

子供向けの本のため、シンプルな英語で記載されていて、読みやすい本です。日本で出版されている歴史の本は、日本視点でのみ書かれているものが多いですが、この本からは日米双方の立場から客観的に記録しようとしている努力が感じられます。日本が米から日本へ石油の輸出停止という経済制裁を受けた真珠湾攻撃に進んで行く過程や作戦遂行の様子が、米側の視点では、宣戦布告なしに突然攻撃を受けた米軍の様子や、人命救助にあたった人々の様子が記載されています。 真珠湾攻撃の2ヶ月後に、フランクリン・ルーズベルトが西海岸にいた全日系人を収監することを命令したことについて、この本は恐ろしい決断だと述べて、その後過ちを米国が認めたことが記載さています。 また、原爆については民間人の男性、女性と子供が犠牲になってことにも触れています。しかしながら、原爆を投下したことは、過ちではないとも主張しており、この点については残念です。 全体としては、反日の国民感情を煽ることなく両方のサイドから客観的に記載しようと努めている点で評価に値すると思います。
