So nice to see them around again
A very readable version of the Brer Rabbit tales. So nice to see them around again. I loved these stories as a child. I'm still upset that they took Song of the South out of circulation. For my money, the tales of Uncles Remus should be a source of great pride for African Americans. They are wonderfully unique and capture human aspects through the forum of animal tales. I couldn't sit still for Wind in the Willows, but I loved Uncle Remus tales. My grandchildren loved the tales so much they asked me to find some more.Don Daily's illustrations are simply delightful from beginning to end. The characters are drawn large and the art fills the page. The animals expressions really show the emotions they are feeling in the stories. The children would remark "Look how mad he is"!Buy your books at Amazon's used book program. You get the best deals.

Not the Original Tale as the Language has been Changed
I was very disappointed that this wasn't in the original style of the book I grew up with and what I later shared with my kids. The fun of this book was in the reading of it. I've included an image of the original. The way this book is written was boring. I bought this book thinking it would be in the same style. It has been rewritten, possibly to be more politically correct. I don't know. I started reading this version to my grandkids, but it was too boring, so I pulled out my old version and they absolutely loved it and wanted to hear more. They loved the funny way I spoke as we read. Unfortunately, Brer Rabbit and Tar Baby was the only story I had. So just know that this newer version has been changed.

We are in a Golden Age of children's book publishing
The illustrations in this book knock my socks off. Perfect for fun read-alouds, with large pages and gigantic, immediate, action-packed illustrations. I have the hardcover edition – a great gift for a classroom library or a favorite niece or nephew.

Colorful pictures suitable for children
I've always been fascinated with the stories of Joel Chandler Harris and this book brings not only the stories to life but the pictures are well thought out and enlarged so children can enjoy them. This short collection of some of the Uncle Remus tales are very easy to read and makes great bedtime stories. A must if you like the stories of Brer rabbit and Brer Fox along with some other critters.

Classic stories
So, I was talking w/my g/f in Kentucky, and she asked me about the stories, as she remembered the one of Brer Rabbit & the Tar Baby. So, here we are, 2 older women in our 60s on the phone, I'm reading it to her from the west coast to Kentucky! She loved the story.

Smart
Old stories retold about a sly, trickster rabbit that I remember listening to as a child. They are funny but lessons to be learned here in the clever telling

Great stories and pictures
My grandma and parents would tell these stories and I loved them. Song of the south was one of my favorite movies. I love the pictures in this book and the lessons we learn from the stories. I can’t wait to share them with my granddaughter.

BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED
I remember my Brer Rabbit book printed in the early 1950s. It had black and orange illustrations. This book is breathtakingly illustrated and its stories just the same - funny and naughty - like the antics of Tom and Jerry. This is a perfect bedtime read which will be appreciated by my great nephew AND his parents. The book arrived VERY well packed and super-fast. THANK YOU VERY MUCH INDEED.

Not really authentic
Brer Rabbit was part of my childhood and I suppose working with children I thought this would be a nice storybook. It's ok but I think it really needs the authentic Southern dialect to make it work. These stories are really a kind of old African story, preserved and retold by Black Southerners. The old African character of the wiley critter, sometimes too clever by half is Brer Fox's character. Also the politeness of language used between the animals when they might well be sworn enemies is kinda 'Southern' manners. This book is ok but I'm still looking for the old one!

The ideal storybook.
The book arrived in excellent condition. I have been reading it to my 7-year-old grandson before bedtime while he & his younger brother were staying with us. He was enthralled & I enjoyed telling him these wonderfully imaginative tales from the Deep South of the USA.
