NIV, Life Application Study Bible, Second Edition, Genuine Leather, Black, Red Letter Edition Leather Bound – October 24, 2011

This Bible is about perfect. The study notes are a good blend of life application (as the title states) and study commentary to help readers understand the passages and the historical background. The notes make it a great Bible for studying. It also contains maps and highlights important people so you can better understand the personalities involved. The format is one column per page for the actual text of the Bible and the font is very easy to read. The notes at the bottom of each page are in two columns and smaller font. There are also tiny references in the margins for related verses elsewhere in the Bible, and footnotes giving alternative translations which are both very helpful when studying. In short, don't be misled by the title, Life Application Bible. This is truly a study Bible--one of the best!The cover on the one I bought was imitation leather, but it has a nice feel--a little softer and thicker than most leather covers. I expect it will be durable and is very comfortable to hold. It looks great, too.

This is the luxury edition which arrived much quicker than I thought. They told me to expect it in November but it came about two weeks earlier. There are three different font sizes – largest for the main bible in single column format – perfectly okay to read, smaller for the life application and explanation section along the bottom. This is s little difficult for me to me to read; and smallest font for the cross reference bit along the spine – I am hardly able to read this. All in all, this bible is very well presented, some characters sketches, maps, lays flat, thumb index, two-tone soft leather bonded, reading plan and lots more. I so look forward to reading my bible these days. Very pertinent life application section explaining how things were in those days and how you can apply it today. Comes with two presentation hard cases telescoping into one another with the bible inside so no need for me to buy a cover. I would recommend this totally. First off, let me just say I have read simple bibles and sometimes the scriptures don't make to sense to me. My mind needs a background for whats happening in the book I'm reading, and this bible does this really well.Each scripture has a context described in the page the scripture is on, and the best part of this is that the context is not biased towards any particular theology, it seems to revolve around the real purpose of the bible, and this is a personal relationship with God. Additionally, it organizes information in the bible so that you can see comparisons, info graphics and arrangement of similar terms and definitions in a passage or book. It organizes.The formatting of this bible is great, the scriptures and other text are clear. The version I got had the imitation leather, don't be fooled by the name. The imitation leather looks great and seems very durable.I really like this bible, and I'm glad I bought it.

This is my second copy of this Bible. I love it, all of the info about people being discussed, where they are, the maps, etc. I love the commentary and everything about it. I recommend this Bible to every new Christian I talk to. The commentary helps you apply biblical events to events occurring in our daily, modern lives.

I was looking for a good study bible for my wife and I had briefly looked at one similar to this one when visiting with a friend. He had a more plainly covered life application study bible. I liked how it relates passages found in the text with real life, which is clearly the purpose of this type of bible. I plan to buy one for myself as well because there are times when I am reading the bible that I just don't know exactly what is going on or how it applies to me directly. This bible is well designed to answer many questions people might have about a given portion of scripture. I would recommend this bible to anyone looking for a good general reading bible that also allows for digging a little deeper in to the purpose of the scriptures. I also recommend this version (NIV) of the bible for anyone wanting a bible that is easier to understand without being "watered down".

My grandson who is 27 is so impressed with this Bible. He loves to study with me from his new Bible. The maps and helps are tremendous and add a lot to our studies together. I also love the fact that this is the revised (2011) version of the NIV and that it is in large print and is indexed. Also the Leathersoft cover is impressive. You can't go wrong with this Bible.

I REALLY wish Zordervan would make a Super Giant Print version of this bible, but this is the best I could find after a lot of searching. I preordered a couple months before this addition came out so I got a super price. It arrived about a week later than promised through no fault of Amazon's. I was notified the edition was being delayed by the printer and was given the option to cancel but chose not to. The print is definitely larger than the 17 year old edition I have been using. The leather binding is very nice. I have always enjoyed the Life Application Bible for all the extra information, maps, character studies, etc. I like everything about this bible but I still wish it had larger print for us older folks.
