Best Map of the Dominican Republic
This is the best map of the Dominican Republic I have ever found. I purchased two, so that I can keep one with me and give one to my friends in the DR. There are lots of children in the extended family and I cannot resist an occasional geography lesson.

Really good quality map
This map is of fairly heavy material which means it will last and it says it is water resistant which is great. I think I will get a lot of use out of it. Lots of interesting information included about places, history, etc. on the map, too. Very satisified with it so far. Haven't used it yet, but I will.

Great map. I order one of these for every vacation. We don't just sit around the resort all day, we rent a car and explore the country and visit the local towns and villages.

A good map that should be better
National Geographic's Dominican Republic map has a lot of positive qualities. The paper it's printed on is of sturdy good quality. It is "waterproof and tear-resistant." I love the scale. 1 inch=7 miles. (The downside, the map is really big.) As a result, the map can contain a great deal of detail. The colors and typeface used make for an easily-readable map. In short, it's probably the best printed Dominican Republic map available. However, as others have pointed out, the map is not well-revised. Major new highways are not shown. For example, perhaps the single most important highway in the country for tourists, DR-3, from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana now goes directly to Punta Cana. The map does not reflect this change. The circunvalacion in Santo Domingo and Santiago are not shown. These are key roads for basic transportation. In some cases, the highway designation is incorrect, e.g. DR-19 to San Francisco shown as DR-132,... or not shown at all, e.g. DR-45 from Monte Cristi to Dajabon. It would seem that when NG revises its maps they would consult the department of transportation to learn of new completed highway construction projects. NG says, "We welcome your input if you discover conditions other than as shown on the map. Send an email to... bla bla bla..." I thought that was their job.In conclusion, the NG map will be a valuable travel tool, but Google maps will be the essential go-to navigation tool.

Great Map
The map is what you's expect from National Geographic. Highly detailed and easy on the eyes. The actual material is heavy duty and very smooth. There is lots of extra info on the back too. Excellent product.

Nice presentation - not enough detail
This map is reasonably priced but for an independant traveller trying to find his own way around a new country this map is not enough on its own, but use with a good guide book (we used the rough guide to The Dominican Republic) and you should get by, although we did get lost on one occasion whilst travelling North from Santiago to the Atlantic coast near Puerto Plata. Some major road numbers are missing and also the colours used for roads can be missleading, with some roads coloured red meaning primary road but in reality they are not much more than dirt tracks.
