Learned my lesson...
After finding a compost bin at a garage sale three weeks ago, I was really excited to start composting because I have a huge garden. After researching several different options, I decided on the RSVP Compost Pail based on the reviews, which made it seem like it was worth spending the extra money for this one.In general, I've been very happy with it. It holds A LOT more than I thought it would (I've put six bananas in there and it wasn't even close to being full), and it looks good on the counter. It's easy to clean, and I get the filters out using an old chopstick to poke the edge and pull. I would give it 5 stars except for one thing: up until two days ago, no smells had escaped at all. The day before yesterday I forgot I had left a bag of frozen veggies out that contained broccoli and cauliflower, so I dumped them into the compost bin. This morning I was wondering what had died in my kitchen! We all know broccoli and cauliflower stink, but I thought the filters would be strong enough. They are not! Brought the stuff outside, cleaned the pail and thought the smell would go away. Nope! After only three weeks, the broccoli/cauliflower killed the filters, and I had to change them. Now back to the good stuff. I called Amazon and told them the above story. With their usual amazing customer service, they are refunding me for the old one (I will have to send it back though) and I've ordered a new one so I'm not out a six-month filter after only three weeks of use.I have learned my lesson and will take any cole crops straight out to the compost bin! I'm still reserving long-term judgement to see if absent those deal breaking veggies, the filters will hold up better.

Well designed, well constructed, clean lines.
This pail replaces a white ceramic pail I used for many years until a piece broke out of the side. The handles on the side of the old pail broke off years ago and it was too heavy to carry to the compost heap. This stainless pail is lighter and more useful, also a bit squatter but with the same gallon capacity. Made without seams, and with screws holding the lid and side knobs, it seems designed to last. The top is thoughtfully designed too: no sharp edges with the underside of the lid turned under. There are two filters, not the usual one. (An extra set is included.) With the lid closed, there is no odor even though, unlike the ceramic pail, there is no gasket around the lid to collect coffee grounds and other bits and pieces. No more searching for the gasket in the compost pile because it fell into the pail. Instead of using a bag to contain the scraps inside the pail as we used to do, so that my husband could carry the bag to the compost pile every morning, he just takes the lid off, takes the pail by the handle and carries it out. Instead of rinsing and reusing a plastic bag, we rinse the pail. It is dishwasher safe, just remove the filters first. As for reports of fruit flies, those come with fruit. If the eggs come in with the fruit and hatch, you will have flies with or without a pail. Conclusion: this pail is worth the few extra dollars over the cost of the ceramic and seamed metal pail made by an other manufacturer.

Top quality product !
I use this to collect, for our composters, all vegetable and fruit scraps, including coffee and tea (no bones, no oil) . We keep it in our kitchen, under the sink. Being stainless steal it's built to last, and cleans up beautifully. It's somewhat expensive, but well worth it in the long run. I love it !

An Excellent Composte Bin
I have used this bin for well over a year now and it has held up well. It looks and functions the same as when purchased. It is very sturdy and the stainless steel is very sturdy. The cover has washable filters which is a plus. This product is more costly than most countertop compost bins but well worth the price.

Works for Me
I bought this compost pail several years ago and it works well for me. The products finish has held up well I run it thru the dishwasher about every week or so cause it gets grungy on the inside (mostly from my coffee grinds). Minor maintenance is required to periodically tighten up the handle to the pail. Other than that, this puppy has been doing its duty very well. I maintain two compost bins on my property and the kitchen scraps are a key component for making rich finished compost. I don't understand why everyone with a yard doesn't actively compost their veggie scraps. If you're thinking about starting to compost then I say do it cause it's win-win. I've not thrown out any veggie or yard waste in years.

Yay for composting!
I've had this product for about 2 weeks now, & have filled it once & now it's half full again. I was a little bit worried due to other reviews about smell & fruit flies, but I can honestly tell you that it only smells when you take the lid off, & I haven't had a single fruit fly. I even have banana skins & pieces in there now, & of course bananas are famous for leading to fruit flies - not a single one. I am very happy with this product, & would recommend it to anyone. There is a bigger size available, but even though I have a pretty big kitchen, I found that the smaller size was big enough - it's pretty big. It also comes with a replacement charcoal filter. I love doing things that are good for the environment! :-)

The compost Pail is great!
I ordered this Compost Pail for my husband. Up to now we had been putting kitchen scraps in a metal mixing bowl which looked awful and was always too full-the stuff was spilling out onto the counter. It was GROSS and I did not like having to nag him to take it out to the compost pile. So this Compost Pail has been the answer. It goes well in our kitchen with our stainless steel appliances. It is big so holds alot of stuff and has a lid with a filter. I don't smell a thing. It is tall not wide, so doesn't take up a lot of room on the counter. When he cannot close the lid, it goes out to our compost pile. Our Compost Problem has been solved!!
