An Affair To Remember [Blu-ray]

watching this movie happened on a whim, an 11pm OMG-the-rental-has-less-than-a-day-left kind of whim, but i am so glad i got to experience it. cary grant and deborah kerr did phenomenal jobs at portraying the feeling of meeting someone, falling in love with them, and wanting nothing more than to be with them all while facing the struggle of pride and fear of facing the unknown complexities and vulnerability that come with love. if you are a fan of sleepless in seattle, you'd know how much this classic was referenced in the 1993 film! after deciding to rent this film, i really had no idea where it'd go or if it would move me the way it did annie, becky, or suzy. but gosh it did. it really did. an affair to remember is a classic for many reasons. it is the love many of us dream for because we see two people who believe in the power of their love and connection and attempt to make their love work. yet, we also see how challenging it is to let someone love the part of you that is hard to accept for yourself and how fear can hurt that connection, just as pride can, but if we are open to it, and if the other is, too, we will learn that love is layered and that unconditional love comes with unconditional acceptance. we get to see two people begin to understand one another beyond words and see acceptance and pure love radiate through the screen. the movie sends a message of 'even when you aren't looking for love, even if you're fearful of what will happen next, if you let it, it will show up and it will embrace you unconditionally' and it happened in many different avenues with nickie and terry, leaving us with one remarkable ending. it makes sense why this film is loved by many, because it is how many of us hope to be loved even til this day. in other words, it is timeless... it's beautiful because it's one of those love stories where two people that are meant to be together finally cross paths. it's something about love stories where two people who are so right for one another yet try to fight it, but can't, and everything around them confirms their union (the letter slipping from terry's hand, the children singing tiny scout; the most notable lyric being 'he knows you inside out' then later, nickie saying to terry 'we used to read each other's thoughts', terry having nickie's cigarette case sparking their banter and introduction, all the synchronicities of 'same time, same place' moments, grandmother janou loving terry to the point of GIVING her veil (?) to terry, although she and nickie weren't together...oof, it's too much to combine so i'll stop here). it's something special about finding your person, and it seems that's what happens in an affair to remember with our two love interests. nickie had been filling voids the wrong way and decided to settle until he met someone who he comes to find out that would disrupt his ways all together. this movie touched my heart. beware, it is a tearjerker so have tissues handy... this one will make you cry, sob and blubber (just a little for that last one). annie, becky and suzy.... you were right. this movie was everything! (p.s. everyone may not interpret this movie the same way, that is okay <3! art is always to be interpreted by the viewer and interpretations change depending on the lens. much love!)

This movie is a classic romance that still holds up beautifully today. Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr have incredible chemistry, and the story is heartfelt without feeling overly dramatic. The pacing is smooth, and the emotional moments really stay with you. The cinematography and music also add to the elegant, timeless feel of the film. Overall, a touching and memorable movie that’s easy to revisit.

I absolutely love and adore Cary Grant! How could anyone not love and admire him? A wonderful actor, totally and utterly beautiful, and from everything written about him, a very nice person and true gentleman. He completely shines in this movie, an international playboy about to marry a wealthy heiress in New York. But while crossing the ocean on a large luxury liner, he encounters a beautiful woman that he finds irresistible, and when his advances are rebuffed, he acts like he is embarrassed and pretends to walk away. She either feels sorry for him or finds him intriguing and irresistible as well, so she agrees to have dinner with him. After a stopover in France where she meets his elderly grandmother, her opinion of him changes considerably, and their attraction becomes obvious to others on board the ship, which is bad for both of them, especially for Terry McKaye, who is involved in a long-term relationship and is on her way home to New York as well. This is a remake of a much earlier version starring Irene Dunne and a renowned French actor, which was quite good, but this updated version is my favorite. I watch it once a year around Christmas time as I have it on the old DVD format, but now that I have purchased it and added it to my Prime Video, I can watch it any time I choose with just the click of the remote. Witty dialogue, Cary at his most irresistibly and utterly charming best, and a superb female lead make this a must-see. Keep the Kleenex handy; trust me, they will be needed!

Watch it and enjoy it. It's simply wonderful story from a time when content meant everything. Just down right heartwarming prize. 10 stars!

A great movie! Should have added this to my collection before.

Wonderful, except I think a scene has been deleted on the amazon prime version. I believe T. McKay was in the gallery in a wheelchair buying the painting and that was taken out. I also think the ending scene was slightly changed. An Affair to Remember has the best ending scene of any movie, and Prime should not have tampered with it.

This is a review that assumes you already know the movie--possibly by heart by now--and are wondering if your love affair with "An Affair to Remember" needs this "50th Anniversary Special Edition" with the commentary track and mysterious, unexplained (on this page at least) second disc. Short answer: a resounding NO! What they (whoever they are) did was take a movie classic that millions love and that, as Deborah Kerr says, "people watch every six months to have a good cry," and bury it in blather. Here's what's on disc two: 1. A few minutes of the Widow Grant talking about her love affair with Cary in the most unrevealing way imaginable. 2. A few minutes of screenwriter Peter Viertel, Kerr's second husband, talking about how their love affair broke up Kerr's first marriage, then inferring that he played around during their 30 years together and she put up with it because "she was a saint." 3. Endless minutes of Peter Bogdanovich and an all male bunch of academic talking heads blathering on about the life and works of director Leo McCarey, who also played around and was an alcoholic and whose suavity was said to be the inspiration for Cary Grant's screen personna. 4. Jerry Wald's brother and sons with a bio of the producer. 5. The return of the blathering academics to dissect the look of the movie. 6. Newsreel clips from the premiere and TA DA!...7. the only interesting and professional-looking piece on the entire bonus disc: an AMC "Backstory" feature which you may well have already seen on TV and which dishes some interesting dirt accompanied by decent visuals. Having wasted my ears on disc 2 before trying out the commentary track on disc 1, I was admittedly blathered out and it didn't help that the film historian-commentator early on started getting some plot points wrong. But what pushed me to the "off" button was his anecdote about meeting Cary Grant after Grant's retirement and introducing himself by saying (oh barf) "I come to you with a message from the women of America: they want you to return to the screen," to which good old Cary replied, "What did you do, take a poll?" You'll note that they waited to release the 50th anniversary edition of this 1957 movie until 2008. I suspect the reason is they had to wait for all the principals to be dead (Kerr and Viertel died in the fall of '07) before they could get away with producing a tribute that's so on-the-cheap and unworthy. Ah, how I would have loved to read Nora Ephron's take on this debacle. As the British radio guy says in his sign-off at the beginning of the movie: "Well....there you have it."

THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY. SUCH A GREAT CLASSIC MOVIE! I NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING IT.

Amazing delivery (13 hours after I had ordered it) Loved the film. The movie `Sleepless in Seattle` makes sense when you see this as it is built around it. Really moving and well-acted. Cary Grant was wonderful, as was Deborah Kerr. The fashions of the time were so stylish too.

My parents grew up watching this movie and so did I. It’s a timeless masterpiece which everyone should watch in their lifetime. Some movies are forever, ‘An Affair to Remember’ is one of the best classics. Then blu-ray quality is superb. Great picture, great sound. A must have for movie buffs.

Nous avions visionné ce film il y a quelques années en version originale et souhaitions le revoir. C’est une belle histoire, les vues prises à Villefranche-Sur- Mer sont splendides. Pas de sexe, pas de violence, beaucoup d’humour mais quelques larmes versées pendant les dernières minutes. Je recommande.
