Shars3" Jaw Width x 4" Jaw Opening Precision Toolmakers Vise 202-1124 R[

I purchased this vise for my mini mill hoping to solve a problem that I was having in regards to holding the materials I was machining. From day one I couldn’t get this new vise to hold on to any thing. I took the vise apart and found a huge problem. The hold down screw was stripped and the cross bar that is used for clamping was damaged beyond repair. I made a new clamping bar or dowel and installed a stainless steel bolt and now the vise clamps down and holds the materials tightly. The seller needs to make sure these items perform as expected and that the quality of these items are deemed acceptable by the consumer. I do recommend this vise but before I repaired it, it was a huge fail.

Item arrived on time well packaged. Included was a Plastic storage box, Quality/Inspection Certification, & an Allen Wrench for the vise jaw. The Vise was sufficiently oiled and sealed in a heavy guage plastic bag for storage during transportation. Th long grooves along the vise sides and the 2 small grooves on the front & back allow easy attachment to the milling table. I definitely like the grooves over fixed holes for adjustment & placement of the vise in a continuously variable location on the table. The Vise tightens up and secures the work pieces sufficiently. I will be ordering a small 3" set of parallels for use with this vise, The 4" hangout a bit far. The Fixed jaw is threaded on both sides M8x1.25. You can attach work pieces using those as well or use them to help secure the vise. The fixed jaw is squate and true when checking with my 50mmx40mm Machinist square. I am very pleased over all with the initial view of the product in hand and with how the product functions. This product far exceeds the expectations I had for it based on price. I use this product with a Bench Top Mill & I would recommend it to anyone. I will be purchasing a 1" & 3" model from the same Vendor for sure in the very near future.

The clamp mechanism binds on the leftover burs and rough edges, making adjustments a bit tedious. Some of the side mounting holes fit 1/4" drill rod, others bind very tightly. The good news is the ground surfaces are nicely finished and the jaw itself slides smoothly without play.

I bought this vice to use on a small 6” rotary table and it works great. I like the side and end slots better than the traditional hole-type, because it makes it much easier to clamp down. I’m not using it for precision grinding, so it has been plenty square for what I’ve used it for, and clamps plenty tight for milling operations.

Used it on my home made mini mill, worked fine. I don't do big or real precision work on the mill, but it held material well. Big improvement over my last vise. Easy to adjust and hold down.

The vise arrived in factory packaging but when opened I found that the vise was about 30% covered in surface rust. After scrubbing with light oil and a Scotchbrite pad, I got it all off. Vise itself is well machined, tight and true according to my checks with a square.
