Looks Great on the Kindle Fire
I hadn't tried picture books on my Kindle Fire until this book, and was pleased with the quality of the artwork as well as the ability to read the text very easily. There's a special pop-up feature enabled, which I tried out, and though it makes the text slightly larger and with white background, the original was perfectly fine, so I didn't really feel the need for this feature. The illustrations definitely pop! I particularly like the message. "BIG is bigger than that BIG is more." So true. This e-book is a nice, inexpensive way to preview the print book, which would make a great addition in every home and public library.

BIG is a big hit!
We downloaded the Kindle version of this book at the beginning of the week, and the children have asked to read it again and again. The pictures are so sweet and bright, and the message is clear without being preachy. This is an excellent non-fiction book for children that is fun to read, fun to look at, and fun to learn from.

Nothing little about BIG!
Children always look for ways to be bigger, do bigger things and here is beautiful book that confirms that yes they can be BIG in creative and meaningful ways.My daughters love this book and now want to create a book with the same sort of background art. Another fun summer activity underway!

When, oh, when, will I be BIG? What does that MEAN?
"When you're big, you can do that." What child doesn't look forward to the day when they're big, and they can do all those things they've been told they can't do when they're little? But what does it mean to be "big"? Just HOW big does one need to be? Is "big" like the ruler in front of the rollercoaster that says "You must be taller than this to ride"? How long does getting big take? With fun, vividly colorful, collage illustrations by Clare Fennell, Coleen Paratore tells young readers just what it really means to be "big." Little people can be "big," too. Getting big takes a lot of little steps. On each page, kids learn that being big is more than being older, richer, and having more "stuff." Big is about becoming independent, about using resources wisely, about helping others, and about being an involved member of your community. "BIG" is a great introduction to these concepts - bright and fun without being "preachy" or getting bogged down in details. Exactly what it means to be an "active citizen of your city, country, world" means is something that's still likely to go over the younger reader's head without additional explanation. It's something teens still struggle with, and adults do, too, sometimes. But I think it's the perfect opening for a conversation between parents and children about just what it means to be "big" and why those things matter. This is a book parents can feel good about, too - "Little Pickle Press is dedicated to helping parents and educators cultivate conscious, responsible little people by stimulating explorations of the meaningful topics of their generation through a variety of media, technologies, and techniques." Their printed books are made using green energy and recycled materials, with care for the environment.

This book is BIG!
BIG! What makes us BIG? It is not just how tall we are.Mastering a new grade level. That is BIG!I would say President Obama is BIG. Being a President is a BIG accomplishment. You can be BIG in your community.Being BIG enough to set a good example for your younger siblings. This would be a BIG responsibility.Maybe you are BIG enough to get on your bike without training wheels. That is also a BIG accomplishment! How will you know when you are BIG? When you succeed at what you are trying to accomplish.I really liked the lesson the author teaches in this story.I think it will make a BIG impression on children of all ages.Probably some grownups too.It will be fun to see how many times in a day we can succeed in someway BIG.This story teaches responsibility, to set goals for oneself and to be a good (BIG) citizen. The illustrator depicts the story with characters and other images that tells the story in a BIG way. The illustrations are in BIG bold colors that will peak the child's imagination.BIG! BIG! FUN!I highly recommend this book.Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book for from Little Pickle Press for review.I was in no way compensated for this review. It is my honest opinion.
