Constructed in lightweight plastic and the volume control is a bit fiddly to use but these are minor gripes. I use it for listening to TV and it really does work very well. With the fresh 9volt battery supplied and volume on a low setting it is perfectly adequate giving a real boost to the TV sound. The headphones supplied work well but I use my over-the-ear Hi-Fi phones with it to block out other room noise. Best gizmo, and by far the cheapest, that I've bought this year. Recommended.

I would have given five stars but the battery was dead good job we had a spare one to try as i thought it was not working it is worth the money head phones that came with it were crap so used head phones i already had so sound quality is great

Not very good sound sounds as if interference all the time, Headphones could easily break.

My 91 year old mother has terrible trouble with her dexterity. Fighting with her hearing aids, putting them in and adjusting the small buttons drives her crazy. It's like talking to R2D2 from star wars with all the whistling. I thought this may be the answer. I purchased larger earphones so she could easily put them over her head to listen to TV and to hold a conversation without the orders from the resistance coming through in bleeps and whistles. This little unit is the cheapest and its true what they say, you get what you pay for. It's tinny and although it does prevent the feed backs its ability to deal with sound quality is poor. I would suggest a more expensive item. I got this as a trial to see if it helped and is better and easier for her to use. It does amaze me that someone hasn't taken the idea of producing a quality product with bigger knobs and buttons for the elderly with dexterity issues to handle with ease and to colour the buttons so they can make them out with poor eyesight. If anyone can suggest a better and more usable unit please drop me line.

I bought this because although I don't need a hearing aid - yet! did need assistance to hear older films and TV programs when the sound is fuzzy. As I live in sheltered accommodation, am always nervous about turning up the sound too high, in case it disturbs my neighbours.When it arrived, I set it up with the battery supplied - nothing, not even turned on. Another reviewer had said they had the same problem, so I just bought a new battery, set it up and it was amazing. Perfect clarity, and need only have the TV sound on a much lower volume than I would ever need.Found the headphones with the set just a little uncomfortable, so used the ear-bud type which came with my phone. Perfect! For such a low price, I can hear things clearly again. Many thanks.

I used this in my job as a speech and language therapist approx 4 days a week. The headphones were flimsy and not suitable for children so I ended up buying headphones that were more fit for purpose, which solved this problem. The device has worked well for about 5 months when the sound could only be heard in one hear and then the distortion noises started. I have had to buy a different device. Good while it lasted and although it didn't last long, it only cost £10 at the time of purchase, so I'm not too devastated.

Anyone with elderly relatives who cannot get away with hearing aids all the time should have one of these. Listening to the doctor, tv, when friends visit etc. Point the microphone at what you want to hear and pop on the mini headphones...so simple. Every time we use one of these out in public people ask us what it is and where can you buy one...brilliant things.

Works well especially for the money. Mono sound, not the best quality but does exactly what it claims to do. Personally , I just needed a cheap amp for a project so pinched the internals , cheaper than buying one you make yourself. Headphones are a bit naff but for the price you wouldn't expect Bose quality !! All in all, great value.
