GOSKY Spotting Scope Phone Adapter for Binoculars & Monoculars

Pretty much like everyone else said, this is a great device that works as it should, but it takes a little bit to set it up. Overall, I would give it very strong view because it’s well-made.

A great, handy little device. However, it takes some time to line up the binoculars with my iPhone camera lens using this adapter, which is why I give four stars in my review.

My son and I have been using the Gorsky adaptor for two weeks now and once you get the hang of it, you won’t regret your purchase. It’s amazing how often one of us wants to share what we’ve found on a scope, only to have it bumped and become misaligned – Not anymore. Now once we find the general area where our specimens reside, we mount the Gosky and both of us have a real-time view! Quality is amazing, with solid aluminum, steel and ridged plastic construction, with padded mounts for your phone and eyepieces, it should last for years. Mounting the device is simple enough, though for smaller eyepieces I found the mount loose – at no fault to the adaptor. This is easily remedied by inserting a folded business card or tissue between the mount and the eyepiece. At first you may struggle getting any image at all until you figure out that you need to take into account all three axes. You not only have to align your phone with the eyepiece, you must also adjust the pitch, roll, and yaw until you have a centered image. Distance from the eyepiece also matters and depending on the optics, you may find better results having the adaptor’s clamp flush with the edge of the eyepiece, leaving a gap between the phone’s camera and the eyepiece, or a closer mount may work better. Once everything is adjusted, don’t be surprised if the image is not as bright or as large as what you would see using just your eyes – typically you’ll see the circular image taking up a small fraction of the screen. Once again, no fault to the adaptor – this is purely a result of using a phone camera in a manner it wasn’t intended to be used. Zooming in on the image does a good job at using your screen real-estate. Locking the focus of your camera will also prevent image fluctuation, though it tends to darken the view. Adjust the image brightness accordingly. The video and images below were taken with an iPhone 5 at 4x and 10x using the My First Lab Duo-Scope Microscope - MFL-06 available here on Amazon. You'll note that you don't need a professional level microscope to see the paramecium and amoebas. I also mounted it on our Kyowa Lumiscope 6TI5T6 microscope (which has fantastic optics and fine-control) and on a small telescope- no issues. I’d love it if there was a deluxe model that had would have knobs to allow you to fine-tune the pitch, roll, and yaw of the camera placement, though that might make it too bulky as well as a lower clamp to record your cell phone’s position, making future use a drop and load. Supplemental software would also work wonders – something that would allow you to broadcast to your computer a real-time feed of what your phone is capturing. (If anyone knows of such a product for iOS, please reply in the comments!)

I initially purchased this cell phone mount adapter because of the metal construction and quality of products, no complaints in that department. Phone adapter works well with some of my older cell phones like the HTC One M7, but did not do so good with the Nexus 6 or Nexus 6P (larger phones). I wish that the phone grips were a little longer… grips work fine with a naked phone, but when you have a case it’s barely hanging on. Next, due to the size of the Nexus 6P , I can’t grip phone correctly because I end up pressing on the volume up/down buttons which keeps camera in burst mode constantly taking picture also interferes with power buttons. This adapter is difficult to use on longer phones with power/volume buttons on the side. To use on my Nexus 6P I have to change settings on phone to keep screen awake for a 2-5 minutes because I loose access to power button and loose access to fingerprint sensor on rear of phone and if phone shuts off no way of powering back on without removing from mount. Works with my Celestron Astromaster 12x60 Binoculars and Celestron Powerseeker 114 Telescope. I can’t really say that I would recommend this product to everyone, because honestly it’s not truly “universal” in my opinion. Maybe if design was modified to accommodate larger phones without interfering with buttons and easier to use like “plug and play” I would.

I bought this mount after seeing a colleague using it for ornithology and taking near-DSLR quality pictures, so I decided to snag one and see how it works in my setup. I use a Nexus 5 mounted to a Bushnell Legend HD 10x Monocular. I've taken this setup into the field in cold, hot, rain, sleet, and snow, with the goal of photographing wildlife, and this is what I think: There's not much to be said for this simple tool. It just works! The scope mount is tight and versatile, the phone holder is padded for grip and protection, and the sun shield is a nice touch. It's well made- sturdy enough to be banged around outdoors without loosening and messing with your phone or scope's alignment. If it's suited for field biology, it'll handle anything you throw at it. Here are a few things of note for new owners and prospective buyers: 1. Learning Curve: If you're going to use a scope and phone for targets that might move, you'll need to learn to focus and shoot on the fly (bird pun!). That goes double for quick setup. I notched my Nexus 5's case so I could get the alignment right every time. Learning setup and figuring out how to deal with camera shake (that gets amplified the more powerful your optic is) will take practice. 2. Mileage May Vary: Your photo quality really depends on what this thing is bringing together. This mount will hold your setup steady, allowing you to work around whatever challenges your setup has. For example: my optics are great, but the Nexus 5's camera is sub-par (I miss my DSLR so much!), so I have to be picky about my focus. A phone with a better camera will clear that right up! 3. There are 2 ways to optimize your photography with a digiscoping setup. You can take the photo without zooming in on your phone, then edit. You can also zoom in so the scope outline doesn't show (not recommended for low quality cameras in most situations), then focus and take the shot Overall, I would recommend this for just about any use you could come up with for it. I've put it through the ringer and it's held up well.

A top rated product from a well respected manufacturer should have been worth the money and a no brainer but unfortunately this one missed the mark (for me at least). When it arrived, it came in a small completely plain white thin cardboard box. No logo, company name or other identifier present except for the small parcel sticker on the side. No tape holding it together - it was slightly crushed and mangled and one side had started the pop open. Inside was the product and a folded instructions guide with pictures. But that was everything. Upon holding it it didn't feel particularly cheap? But it didn't feel super quality either. Made of thick plastic and screws, it's a bit of a process to get everything fitted and set in a way that actually allows for any viewing. I found the screws to be cumbersome at best and pretty much useless at worst. The top screw from that whole section just seemed to spin and spin and never tighten or loosen or move at all. In all my attempts, it's left these sparkly piles of shavings and friction dandruff in and around the holes and surrounding plastic. To keep this from becoming a short book, all in all I was disappointed with this product because it's apparent ratings on here combined with it being from a brand I know and have personally used other products of theirs, I hadn't any doubt I was getting a quality product. Unfortunately I found this product to be difficult to use, the design and mechanisms could be better, different (or actually work, in my case..), frustrating, and disappointing especially coming from Gosky.

I bought this phone mount for my telescope so I wouldn't have to deal with my shaky hands messing up photos. I've been using it for a day now and the quality is amazing! At first I became disappointed because it didn't seem to fit my iPhone 15, but after a little while of using it I discovered that there are two screw holes which can be used to hold your phone better. As other reviews might mention, it is screwy-in based rather than springs, which is somewhat annoying, but not annoying to the point of taking away from the quality. It (again, as other reviews have said) does take a few minutes to get aligned, but I have noticed that the more I set it up, the faster I align it. The frame is made of a durable metal while the smaller bits are a firm plastic. I'm just an amateur photographer without much experience, but this mount has proved itself extremely useful to me! 9/10 would buy again.

Very versatile. I tried it on my Celestron Ultima 80 spotting scope when target shooting. My LG G4 phone can see and photograph .223" holes (5.56 mm) at 200 yards (180 m). I'll try longer distances when I get better and have clearer weather. And I got a feature I hadn't even noticed in the description: it has a 1/4 - 20 threaded hole, so I can mount my phone on a tripod via this adapter when not using it on a 'scope. I wish the sidewalls of the clamp were higher, though. I have a protective case on the G4, and the combination is too thick (13 mm) for the clamp to securely hold. I cheated and carved most of the cushioning out of the clamp, and it works fine now. I don't miss the padding, because the clamp is against the back of my phone case, where I'm not worried about the unlikely possibility of a scratch. A note about this combination of Gosky clamp, G4, and spotting scope. Any vibration through such high magnification makes the image jump wildly, enough to make you seasick. I can still get some clear photos, but not every time. Lacking a heavy, sturdier tripod, I make use of the G4's voice activation. It make look strange at the rifle range, leaning over my scope and saying, "Cheese!", but that activates the phone's shutter without touching anything. No vibration! The G4's power and volume buttons are on the back, so I don't have to worry about the clamp pressing them. Mounting is pretty simple: lay the phone face down and clamp the Gosky onto it. Arrange the eyepiece clamp to be centered over the phone's camera lens. Adjust the focus on you telescope or spotting scope. Put the Gosky over your device's eyepiece and clamp it on, then fine-adjust the position between the two clamp assemblies to get the best image on your screen. Unless your tripod is solid concrete, your phone will weigh down the back of the scope and make it point up more. Reposition it. I had confusing results at first: good image on the screen, but the photo turned out mostly black. Turned out the camera was trying to take a flash picture inside the rubber eyepiece! Turning the flash off fixed it. Remember that if you change the view to something nearer or farther, you'll need to refocus the scope. The camera's autofocus can't compensate for a scope that's out of focus. UPDATE 11/9/16: The two samples here are the same photo: a full-frame version to show what my cell phone produced, but reduced to only 1.6 MP for quick uploading and viewing, and a cropped version of just the eagle, left at full resolution. The spotting scope has a very shallow depth of field, so only the bird's back and a few twigs are sharply focused. I wanted to get the eye sharpest, but I was in a hurry. The eagle was nervous about my being there beside the road, and if I took too long perfecting the shot, I might have been left with a photo of perfectly sharp, but empty branches.

I've really enjoyed this attachment for my Celestron Nexstar 130 SLT. It fits my 1.25 inch eyepieces easily. Attaching my phone was a breeze and taking pictures of the night sky took little time from original set up. It will only attach to the 1.25 inch eyepieces as the larger 2 inch eyepieces are too big, but I already new that when I was looking at purchasing. It is hard to line up my phone's camera over the eyepiece, but as long as the moon is out, I can use it for the set up and then move around to the area of the sky that I want to photograph. With the steady hands-free attachment I can extend the exposure up to 14 seconds on my phone and bring in plenty of stars, galaxies and nebulae that I wouldn't be able to see with the naked eye.
