as our family still includes some pre-schoolers, I was taken with the excellent reviews this book has received in a number of publications, including the NY Times Book Review. The illustrations and underlying themes of the text are exactly what I would like to share with my own child. This book was given as a gift and I have yet to receive feedback from the parents of the child who received it.

999 Tadpoles is a delightful book. I found that the book has just enough danger (potentially being eaten by a snake or hawk), with enough resolution that it kept all of my kids engaged in the story line. I find the illustrations to be endearing and my youngest had fun picking out the adorable owls and other creatures that are thoughout the book. I love the message from the book of working together to solve a problem and the concept of strength in numbers. Delightful and I am sure this will become a family favorite!

Our four-year-old is into having longer books with actual plots read to her, so I was afraid that this sort of book with its minimal dialogue would be too simple for her, but she was delighted by the story and by the pictures and wanted the story read to her over and over again. A fanciful take on a frog family move that is grounded in enough fact to remain plausible, with minimalist drawings that nonetheless convey the story and feelings remarkably.

You never know when receiving a personal recommendation. I needed a gift for a fifth birthday and crossed my fingers that this book would not offend, or at least be interesting. Wow. It was a wonderful success. The mom said she is requested to read it at least twice a day and she truly enjoys doing it. Whew.

I purchased this book along with Leap Back Home to Me, for my two year old granddaughter who loves to have stories read to her. She can't get enough of this book. Her parents are scientists who work with amphibians so frogs and toads are popular in this household.I recommend this book highly.
