Disney's Darkwing Duck Treasury Volume 1

Not only a Darkwing Duck fan, but as a comics fan, this book was so great in the way it pays homage to a lot of elements of comics fandom. The Duck Knight Returns spoof cover sends the message that the creators not only love DW, but they also know and love comics in general. That being said, although the imagery looks exactly like the cartoons, the pop culture references as well as the surprisingly adult, yet easy-to-understand themes like economic recession, dangerous technology, and evil corporations would make this an enjoyable read for adults and maybe kids 9 and up, I think a lot of the humor would be lost on kids any younger than that, although the imagery will always be cool to look at. Personally, I think the humor in this book takes the already-good cartoon humor and pushes it a bit closer to something like the Simpsons, where current events and things in the modern-day zeitgeist are regularly lampooned. Although this was a 90's cartoon, this was written with a more modern-day comic aesthetic, to the book's benefit. As a result, it reads like a cartoon storyboard with plenty of action and splash art instead of being overly wordy like a lot of 90's comics.

Amazing! Fantastic! It's like reliving my childhood, the best parts of it, in full glorious color! Epic story lines, favorite villains, and a handful of new well meshed characters integrated into a thrilling collection of beautifully illustrated tales. I thought when Disney refused to release the third volume of the Darkwing Duck TV shoe on DVD we had seen the end, that my childhood hero had hung up his famed fedora and cape forever, but then the kind and ingenious Aaron Sparrow brought us the surprising gift of revitaling the fandom, not only bringing back classic baddies like the Fearsome Five and Darkwings first archnemisis, Tauris Bulba, but maining the surprisingly heartfelt relationship between DW and his spirited adopted daughter, Gosalyn. It even pays homage to the spoof origins in Batman which Darkwing was based off by furthering the downward mental spiral of Quackerjack ala The Joker, and let's not forget the epic teamup of guest star Magica Despell with my eternally favorite character of all time, Negaduck. In short, I can't rave about the awesomeness of this book enough. It is a must own for any Darkwing or Disney collector, guaranteed to revitalize the old fans and garner a whole host of new ones unfamiliar with the fandom.

This book is so well written. I'm not much of a reader but this was a simple read. 2 BIG thumbs up!! Great for children bedtime story

I'll start with the negative here, and there's really just one. This is not the complete series as it is missing the last storyline of the comic series, previous collected as Dangerous Currency. I can understand why it was left out given the controversy with the actual writer Ian Brill and that the final storyline was a crossover with DuckTales but it was still disappointing that this massive collection doesn't have a proper ending. Now the good. It is beautiful and relatively unchanged. Some of the darker and more violent parts of the original comic has been edited down to be more kid friendly, which I can understand. The book is massive and has quality pages with bright amazing art. I cannot say enough how great this series is/was and that this is a great collection for it.

While I wasn't able to buy the previous collected trades this complete treasury fit the bill. From what I have read the stories have been audited and the art updated as well. It's all top notch and a fun read. If you loved Darkwing Duck as a kid you'll love this updated series of stories.

I remember watching the Darkwing Ducks series as a kid but have heard nothing from the series since, so finding this was a big surprise. The comics themselves start with Darkwing Duck retired and eventually taking back the name to go on even more adventures. The comics do sometimes refer to events from TV episodes, so I can only assume it's meant to take place after the fact. Overall, a very interesting find, but a lot of the prices I've seen for this collection is insane. You can easily find a readable version of the comics online with a quick Google search, which actually has an extra issue that isn't included in this collection.

The terror that flaps in the night is back in this giant-sized volume of tales that tap right into our childhood love of the purple-clad proprietor of purity for the citizens of St. Canard! Astonishing art that looks like it walked right off the TV screen of my animation-filled youth, with writing that evokes all the voices that made this cast of heroes and villains so memorable. Highly recommended. Continuing adventures by this same team is highly anticipated and desired!

I've been a fan of Disney's Darkwing Duck ever since he came on TV's 'The Disney Afternoon' in the Fall of 1991! This fabulous collection has everything fans of the Duck Knight could want: old favorites from the Fearsome Five (Quackerjack, Megavolt, Liquidator, Bushroot & Negaduck) to the agents of F.O.W.L. (Steelbeak, Ammonia Pine), up to & including DuckTales' own Magica De Spell, along with some new foes for the Masked Mallard to contend with...Cat-Tankerous & One-Shot! And with Joe Books Ltd. unleashing a brand-new series that began in April 2016, it's a perfect time to gather this excellent paperback collection for those who need to get caught up! As the Liquidator once said, 'Don't delay, act now'!

The product arrived before the predicted date and it was very well packaged. I wasn't sure what I was expecting as I bought the cheapest 'used' copy that was on offer, but it is in perfect condition. The covers and pages are clean and the only creases it has are the ones I created after reading it for the first time. Even the spine is intact and it doesn't even smell dusty as old books often do. The book itself comprises of several Darkwing Duck comics. It does say 'all Darkwing comics' but I have another, smaller book, which includes four comics that aren't included in this volume, so I haven't figured out where they all fit in with each other yet. Even so, if you enjoy Darkwing Duck, then there's plenty for you in here. All of the stories follow on from each other and they tie in with some of the TV episodes. Adults who already know all about Darkwing from the 90's will definitely appreciate this and pick up on a few darker themes as well as notice a few tender moments while there is still plenty for the younger generations to enjoy.

Product arrived in excellent condition. I can thoroughly recommend the comics, and couldn't put the book down. Looking forward to ordering the next omnibus edition of Darkwing Dark.
