Early Learning Workbooks

My child's favorite early learning books
These are wonderful books that cover a great deal of early learning. Phonics, math, colors, shapes, thinking, coloring, cutting and pasting, matching, handwriting, sight words. They have them all! They also have really fun art projects that are simple to do and my kids all love. I'm a homeschooling mom of 5 and all my children (the youngest is now 5 and we are using these books) have loved these books and even look on them nostalgically when they see their younger siblings doing them.Be aware these are Christian books, written from a Mennonite perspective, so there are lots of farming references and the family members wear Mennonite type clothing. These are not on every page, just a theme found throughout the books. The family members are shown being polite and doing chores/helping out the family. Great examples for kids. The drawings are clear and excellent and there is never any question in the problems about what the objects are and what is required of the child. Most pages have small type instructions and answers on the bottom of each page. There is even a 3 page review-type test at the end of some of the books. These are for age levels 4-7, so pre-K to 1st/maybe 2nd grade. All books are black and white.Do It Carefully--yellow. This is for younger kids, age 4 or so, preK and covers colors, shapes, letters, etc.Bible Pictures to Color--brown. This is simply a bible coloring book, but some of the pages are color by number, which my son loves. He gets discouraged when coloring because he doesn't know where to start and it seems overwhelming to him. The color by number helps him to enjoy coloring again, because he knows what to do because of the numbers (he has a very engineering-type brain). There is a color key in the back of the book.Everywhere We Go--orange. This is for older kids (1st/2nd) ages 5-7. It covers everything.Finding the Answer--pink. This is for ages 5-7 and covers thinking skills.Counting with Numbers--green. Math workbook, ages 4-6Adventures with Books--blue. Phonics/reading, ages 4-6.Love, love these books! You won't be disappointed.

Better than what you get at K-Mart
These early learning workbooks are designed for a classroom setting and it shows, but they can easily be adapted to homeschooling (which is what we do). Be aware, if you order them, that the Mennonite doctrine of the publishers shows through clearly; the mothers all wear dresses and headcoverings, the children have chores, and life is assumed to be fairly agricultural. To us these weren't downsides--it provides a chance to talk about other cultures with our kids--but to others they might be.The work itself is fairly rigorous for preschool. If you complete it with your child, they will easily be ready for kindergarten. I will say that the books put a lot of emphasis on coloring neatly, which I think isn't always realistic for your average four-year-old boy, but you can adapt them to your own situation.

We homeschooled our children and now our children are beginning to use these with their children. A good product that withstands the test of time!

The curriculum is still the same as it was 27 years ago-solid and very instructive
I bought this when our oldest was 4 and we used these workbooks with all the kids. What I loved the most was the way they taught the kids to remember how to write numbers. An example would be, "A line across and down from heaven, this is how we make a seven."We now have 5 grands and 2 on the way. I sent these workbooks to our daughter's family so they can use the same tools we used to teach our kids. So happy I could find these workbooks.
