can i make this at home using any pan and rocks?

Absolutely. Not sure how this got such a great review on Amazon. This is a rather flimsy plastic tray with a baggie full of fancy gravel. I'm sure the actual production cost of this was well under $1. I bought it "Like- New" so mine came with a zip-loc sandwich baggie full of gravel and a cheap china made plastic tray wrapped and taped together. I actually feel pretty silly for buying it. Read the description, you don't get much. My fault. I thought it was a pot. It's a 1/2" deep looking tray.

Others have stated these are not 8x10”. What is the actual size?

If by 8x10 you mean 6x8, then yes it’s the size you want.
