Is there a benefit to having both the flex shaft attachment and this since it seems both can be used to access hard-to-reach areas?

I have both, and each has its strengths. Since installing the Right Angle Attachment I leave it permanently installed. It gives better fine control than the flex shaft for precision cuts, and the ergonomics of the RAA makes using the Dremel much easier in almost every application. The flex shaft is better for really tight spots, but I don't seem to run into that situation very often.
