Amazing gaming mouse - has lasted almost 5 years, great investment
I love this mouse. I waited a few months to write a review so i would know everything about his mouse before i did one.Lets start with drivers:i had to download a logitech software/driver combo and register the product before i had the option to set custom button properties.it's not bad software ( i havent used it since initial installation though) but keeps a logitech button in your system tray ( i never disabled it)Feel:mouse feels great, fits your hand and buttons are placed easily if you have larger hands. I probably wouldn't recommend this to a younger gamer with smaller hands and shorter fingers because the supportive feel and the easy to hit buttons won't have the same affect. Texture is different to other mice and design sets itself apart, (even if it does make it look dirty when its not)...Weight:adjustable weight is great, lighter mouse means easier large moves ( for mmorpg games) but heavier means more precision ( sniping in fps games)Overall: this is a great mouse for a reasonable price that's not as expensive as other mice and performs just as well.I recommend this mouse to any gamer (but also keep in mind a good mouse pad is important too (for easy sliding and for picking up small movements.))Update:I thought I would update my review. I initially bought this mouse in 2011, and i still use it as my main desktop work and gaming mouse to this day. It has thousands of hours of just gaming on it, so probably tens of thousands of hours of regular use and it's still going strong. The braided cable has undoubtedly save the cable from fraying or tearing as i'm sure would have been an issue without it. I love the hand feel of the mouse still after all this time and now use it as my benchmark for how comfortable a mouse is. The scroll wheel button that engages the scroll, or free wheel is very useful for doing homework and research when scrolling through long written documents or pdf textbooks. I sometimes find that setting it to free wheel and scrolling really fast is faster than using the ctrl + F function to look through documents. the back and forward buttons are awesome for heavy web browsing and save you time when going back through page, and in-game they are programmable so i use them for quick switching weapons or to buy items depending on the game. I noticed when i first got it i liked all the weights in all the time, but lately i have been playing with no weights as my game style evolves. the dpi buttons are probably my least used feature, and would like it if they could be programmed to do something else ( i'm not sure that they can't i've just been too lazy to look). I'm happy i bought this mouse, its a great all round mouse for gaming and for doing day to day computer work. and I love it all the more for going almost 5 years strong!

Fantastic Gaming Mouse!!!
This is a supreme gaming mouse, for the cost-conscious gamer! It is a laser mouse, which means it is much more precise than an optical mouse, and with the adjustable, on-the-fly DPI, it means you can adjust as needed, even in-game. For PC Gamers this is a fantastic in all game types: FPS (you can adjust aim sensitivity on the fly), RTS (helps with scroll speed when you want to scroll quicker, or need to be precise with commanding units), and RPG (helps scrolling, and so on).I play all types of games on the PC, so having this adjustable DPI is phenomenal. I will give you an actual game example. In Mass Effect 2, a great deal of your survivability on the harder difficulty levels depends on your ability to mine resources from planets you scan. This can be tedious and slow because when you scan planets you right click to scan and left click to fire a mining probe to gather resources. But here is the catch, the movement of your mouse cursor (representing the scanner) is reduced by probably 75%+ - it is wickedly slow. Even with the ship upgrade you can buy to help improve the speed at which you can scan, it is still tedious and really really slow! However, with the adjustable DPI I can set it to the highest DPI when I go into the scanning/mining mode in Mass Effect 2, and the scan scroll speed is normal, if not faster than normal. It is great!I also use the Eagle Eye Converter for the PS3 - which basically acts as a KB/Mouse converter for the PS3, allowing you to use a keyboard and mouse to play games on the PS3. For us PC converts who have more friends playing on the consoles than PC =P And yes, it is an unfair advantage hahaha. But the G500 is one of the compatible mice, and it works GREAT! Had to fine-tune the deadzones and sensitivity to get the feel right, but I'd say it is about 90% 1:1 of a PC experience! All in all, I love my G500 mouse and it is good looking, comfortable, and has great customizability, and it wasn't more the $50!!! As compared to many gaming mice that cost $100-$200!!!

Best mouse I've ever owned
Admittedly, I'm not a hardcore mouse enthusiast, but this mouse has been a real pleasure to use so far. I'm not much of a gamer (I'll play the occasional FPS), but I generally prefer the durability and precision of a good gaming mouse, even for normal computer use. At the price when I bought the mouse ($36), it's pretty hard to complain.Pros:- Despite the intimidatingly large number of programmable buttons, all of the expected functionality worked flawlessly out-of-the-box with Ubuntu 10.04. This includes DPI shift, thumb buttons for Forward/Back, and toggling between normal scrolling and hyper scrolling.- Hyper scrolling is awesome. I was skeptical before trying out the mouse and assumed I wouldn't use the feature, but I've gotten addicted to it. Even when using other, inferior mice, I find myself instinctively reaching for a toggle button so I can quickly flick the wheel and get to the top or bottom of a document or web page. This habit formed after using the G500 for only a couple weeks.- The mouse fits comfortable into my average sized hand, as well as my wife's smaller hand. It slides smoothly across my mousepad or desk, and the laser is impressively precise.Cons:- There aren't really any so far, except that I managed to get the tray with the weights stuck inside the mouse. I'm not sure why the eject button isn't working, although it could easily be my fault (maybe I hadn't completely snapped the weights into the tray, or maybe I put it in upside-down). Anyway, I'm happy with the weight that I chose, so even if it isn't completely my fault, it's not a big deal.Really, if you're considering this mouse, I highly recommend it. Even the current price of $60 is completely reasonable for anyone who spends a lot of time at their computer.
