Turtle Beach - Ear Force PX22 Universal Amplified Gaming Headset - PS3, Xbox 360, PC

BACKGROUND:I never really considered sound as an important area to spend money on with console gaming. I own a Logitech G35 7.1 surround sound headset for my PC, and I absolutely love it. Being a PC enthusiast gamer the ~ $125 price tag was justified at the time, and it was worth it considering how much it added to the experience. I built my current PC a few years ago when I felt the PS3 and Xbox 360 were overdue for next gen, and before that I had never thought about getting a quality headset for console gaming.Enter the next gen systems with PS4 and Xbox One. What really spurred me to want to look into console gaming headsets was the fact that the PS4 makes it so easy. I just had one requirement- something with a 3.5mm jack to plug into the DS4. I did some research and found lots of people commenting on their current Turtle Beach headsets and how many were working fine on the PS4. My Logitech G35 actually works fine on PS4 plugged into USB, but the sound quality of the G35 in stereo is not great. I also wanted something that would work with the Xbox One as well. The X1 controller has a proprietary headset jack on the controller now, but they announced that they would be releasing an adapter. So I aimed for a Turtle Beach pair for PS4 compatibility, future Xbox One compatibility, and based off of all the positive reviews I had read about them.The PX22 fit the bill. Its a universal headset with an inline amp that is advertised to work on PS4 and Xbox One (audio only), so the flexibility was a plus. I also snagged it for a great price, on sale for $55 (retails for $80). For the price, I really don't think you could find a better performing gaming headset. For the PS4, I'm just plugging the detachable 3.5mm cable from the headset directly into the DS4 controller. It works great, you can adjust audio levels in the PS4 OS. For the Xbox One, I'm using a Digital to Analog converter from the optical connection in the back of the console, and I'm using the inline amp and plugging the 3.5mm headphone cable into the DAC. I'm getting game audio, and the headset comes with an Xbox 360 chat cable that plugs into the inline amp (and then into the 360 controller) that I'm assuming will work with the yet released Xbox One adapter. So I will be covered for chat in the future, no worries there.SOUND QUALITY:The sound quality of this headset really blew me away. I wasn't expecting much honestly, I had read mixed reviews on the sound quality before purchasing. Honestly, after hearing this headset first hand I do not understand the negative reviews at all. The sound quality on Xbox One using the inline amp is outstanding. The directional sound is incredible in Forza 5, I can hear cars coming up from behind for the pass, and I can hear which of my wheels is losing traction. I've found that increasing the bass slightly on the inline amp gives the best mix. The bass is excellent on these headphones, its much more hard hitting than the bass on my Logitech G35s even at the default setting. The clarity of sound is also very good, much more clean than any headphones I've used previously.On the PS4 plugging into the DS4, I've found that the sound quality does not suffer at all without using the inline amp. Its still just as awesome, you just lose the ability to alter treble and bass and mic volume. What's great is that the DS4 basically makes these into a wireless headset, since all you need to do is plug into the controller. I've used these on AC4, NBA 2K14 and Killzone Shadow Fall and have been really impressed. I'm hearing lots more detail in AC4 including footsteps, rustling of leaves and bushes, and the ambient music soundtrack that I didn't even realize was there before listening through these headphones. They really shine for a shooter like Killzone Shadow fall, the amazing directional sound adds to the immersion and also helps you play better.I also tried these on my PC to compare to my G35 7.1 pair, and I was really impressed with the results. Despite the fact that these are only stereo, I actually felt like the directional sound was better on the PX22s than the G35. Its probably because the overall sound quality is just better. The bass is especially noticeable, makes the explosions and rumbling tank sounds in BF4 even more immserive.Overall, I'm really impressed with the sound quality.ABOUT WIRES:The PX22s are a wired headset, and depending on how you are using them, there can be a lot of wires going on. With the PS4 its essentially wiress with just the headphones connecting to the DS4. However on Xbox One, once the adapter releases my setup will be the headset plugged into the inline amp, which is plugged into the DAC from the optical cable out the back of the console with a USB split at the end plugged into the console's USB port, and then also an additional chat cable from the inline amp leading to the X1 controller adapter. Its really only an extra cable with the chat cable, but those who hate lots of wires should probably steer clear. On PC you would need to plug the inline amp into a USB port, and use a headphone and mic splitter to plug into your sound card. Its more annoying than a simple USB headset like I have with the G35, but its not that much of a mess. I think the complaints about all the wires are overblown...setup is really simple, and all of the options allow this headset to be truly universal.BUILD QUALITY:I've seen a lot of complaints about build quality. I'm really not sure why. I think my G35s are better built quality for sure, but I also paid over double what I paid for the PX22s. I don't find the build quality of the PX22s to be bad at all, the material used on the ear pieces feel fine against my ears, the headband has leather coverings, and the mic feels pretty solid. The wiring is relatively thick and doesnt tangle easily. I also don't have any problems with the headset being tight as other reviewers have said, it feels just fine on my head and is perfectly comfortable.TL;DRExcellent sound quality, works on PC, PS4, and Xbox One for audio with chat in the future. Directional sound is the best I've heard from a stereo headset. Comfortable fit, wires might be a turn off for some. For the price, I'm really happy with this headset.

This headset was set to be a nicer replacement after have owned - and broken - 3 pairs of X12 headsets prior. They worked extremely well, and the sound quality beats the X12s in every sense. The additional controls are especially nice to cater to your exact preferences, whether you like to hear yourself or not, and if you'd like your voice to be heard at full or low volume via control switch. A truly great feature I especially like is the option to plug in my phone to play music alongside my chat/game audio. You can also switch the mic to work with the phone that is plugged in, so that you can use it as a phone headset in a pinch, without losing your game audio. Another useful feature is the chat boost, which does exactly as its meant to, and as my game audio gets loud during intense battles in BF4, my party chat gets louder, which is pretty cool. The option to unplug the headset and use it on the go was another cool but small feature. I guess now is the part where I mention the cons. Well, I don't have any other than the eventual breaking of my first pair. Just like with my X12s, the ear cup breaks away from the headband. This one had lasted roughly a year. I'd still recommend the headset, and I am on my second one as of now.

After some tweaking I got this headset right where I want it to be. The PX22 Headset offers great quality sound at a very reasonable price. While I'm not an audiophile, I'm unable to tell the difference between these and a more expensive counterpart. I'll go category by category on what I think is great and not so great about this headset.AudioThe audio quality out of the box was very questionable. It lacked bass and had a very muffled sound. However, a quick tweak in my audio drivers equalizer (I used the Powerful EQ preset in Realtek HD) made the quality perfect for me. The voices were clear, the bass was deep and it just had a very good sound to it. It goes plenty loud, in fact louder than I can stand it at full blast. Not something I can say about most budget headsets.The odd but nifty in-line amplifier gives you a nice boost of sound and precise control of the volume of various aspects, including the mic feedback, communication volume, media volume, bass and treble. It's easy to use and comes with a handy mic muting feature on it. I find it to be a tad in the way, but in my opinion it's worth the extra "bulk".MicrophoneMicrophones can be really hit and miss on many headsets. I've found Turtle Beach to have one of the better sounding mic for a gaming headset. This headset follows that trend by offering clear sound and good volume. People on the other end of the line do not complain of any crackling, popping or quiet sounds. It comes with a foam wind filter so the people listening to you talk won't have to listen to your breathing. There's not a lot else to say about the mic other than it works as expected.DesignThe headset is very light weight compared to previous gaming headsets I've used. The ear cuffs are cloth and are very breathable. Even though the ear cuffs breath, they still block out most of the background noise. If I'm playing a game or watching a movie with these on, I rarely hear what's going on behind me. It drowns out the fans of my PC and other ambient noise. The headband is cloth on the bottom and a leather-like material on the top, letting your noggin breath a little air rather than boiling under the band. The single audio/microphone cable is on the left side of the headset along with the microphone and runs a short distance to the audio amp.Speaking of cable running to the audio amp, this is my major (And pretty much only) issue with this headset. The cable that runs from the headset to the audio amp is very short (My guess is about 4 feet). This makes it so you have to have the audio amp awkwardly close to you. I personally have it clasped to my desk, but I think one would have better luck if they were to clamp it to their shirt. Only downside to clamping it to your shirt is if you want to get up and move you have to unclasp it. The reason this issue didn't take away a star is it's easily remedied by a very inexpensive audio extension cable. For very cheap you can easily extend the stubby 4 feet to something closer to 10 feet or so.Overall this is an excellent value. While audiophiles may argue it's sound quality is inferior to other high-end gaming headsets, it's hard to complain when the price (At the time I purchased it) was about half of other mainstream gaming headsets. I would highly recommend this to some one who wants quality gaming sound on a budget or for those who are purchasing their first gaming headset.Note: This review was based on my experience using it on a PC running Windows 7. I've not tested it on my phone, Mac or Xbox 360 to see how the experience is there, although I imagine it's very similar across the board.

I have purchased two of these.The first one I bought to replace my Turtle Beach PX21. About a week after receiving it, the mic stopped working. I chose not to get a refund for some reason and bought another one because I really liked the way it sounded.A few months later, I tried out the old headset, and it was working fine again. So then I had two, functioning, awesome headsets. Perfect! One for my PC and one for my PS4. It actually works great on both systems.Now, about 18 months later, one of them has this incredibly annoying problem where if the noise from a game or video is below a certain threshold, no sound is produced, independent of the volume you have the headset set to.On top of that, the fact that you need to plug this headset into AV cables is quite frustrating. It made setting up my Elgato Game Capture device very annoying, causing me to buy a new cable to get it to work properly.On the flip side, they are very comfortable. I have worn them for several hours straight and felt fine. There also hasn't been any cosmetic wear or physical breakage in the two years that I've had the pair.

I purchased this headset in December [2013] as a self Christmas present, and so far I'm enjoying it a lot. Quite honestly I have been a fan of Turtle Beach's products for quite some time now, having owned both the X11's and X12's, though I feel that the PX22's are far superior.Before my purchase, I spent a good two and a half weeks researching to ensure I would be getting a reasonably priced, highly quality product for exactly what I needed it for. What I required was a headset that I could use to listen to music and play video games on my Mac, but also opt to use them for other outlets such as mobile devices (specifically my iPad) and possibly my Xbox 360, as well. What fit the bill the very best was this headset. This particular headset is compatible with PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Mac/PC (both), and various mobile devices; definitely a reasonable price for the amount of platforms it's compatible with.The PX22's sit comfortably on my head; the top piece has a nice padding on it so it will not hurt the top of your head and the padding on the inside where your ears go has just the right amount of give to it, ensuring comfort. I feel highly relaxed when using them, often forgetting they're even on my head. The microphone is not flimsy in the least, and very adjustable.It has very good output sound and includes an inline amp allowing you to control the bass, treble, and other audio controls, which comes in handy if you're playing in a game that may require you to need to listen to detailed sounds as opposed to simply listening to music. Apparently you can also take calls and utilize other smartphone capabilities that it has, but I haven't used that with this headset, so I can't vouch for it.Another key thing I like is that it's USB powered, meaning there's no additional adapters or such that's required. The cables necessary for hooking the headset up to your console of course are supplied in the package. I do wish that this headset had the capability of rotating 90 degrees to sit comfortably on my shoulders when not in use, but this headset not having that capability has not effected my rating for it whatsoever, as it's still an overall fantastic headset.I highly recommend these for anyone, especially if you would find yourself using them across multiple platforms it can successfully connect to.

I have had no complaints from my Tank Clanmembers about any mic noise, screeching or dropouts. It's nice when it works, but I've been using it for about four months now and I've had consistent problems with it.Pros:The sound quality is good.The sound card is a nice touch, and I like the customization with volume, bass, treble, etc.Mic quality, along with most Turtle Beach headsets, are great compared to many other headset brands.It goes over all of my ear instead of resting on my ear itself which helps for comfort.Cons:It uses both a 3.5 mm jack and a USB slot. Other headsets and sound cards I've used in the past only use USB ports, and I found it to be an inconvenience because it would interfere with my other sound devices.I'm not sure if it's because I purchased a refurbished headset or not, but I've consistently had issues with losing my mic or my sound randomly. I have to unplug the USB and plug it back in for it to start working. Every once in a while though, when I plug it in, my mic gets static-y and I have to unplug it again and plug it back in until it works fine.The headset is plastic instead of metal, and it feels cheap. As a result, it's not as comfortable as some of the higher end models and I hate wearing it for long periods of time.Overall, it felt like I got what I paid for when I purchased it. It was good for a budget, but the issues I've had made it increasingly frustrating to deal with. I've had good experiences with other Turtle Beach headsets in the past, but I would recommend shelling out the extra money so you don't have to deal with the hassle I've had with this one.

Edit 4: Well, I finally bought a PS4 on 11/27/15 and it seems like I may have to buy: Turtle Beach - Ear Force PlayStation 4 Upgrade Kit for Turtle Beach Headset Compatibility - PS4 to use all the features of the headset. Although it has served me well for the past couple of months, I can hear minor buzzing that can be lowered if the treble is set lower. The headphones themselves are still in very good condition though. For now, I am going to have to deal with plugging it into the controller and not being able to mute my mic.Background:I used to have a Bluetooth headset that I use on my ps3 and mostly my phone, since it was starting to break. I needed a new headset, better safe than sorry. But on top of that, I wanted a couple of upgrades which are, game audio, adjustable game and chat volume, mute option, adjustable bass, and 3.5mm mobile phone compatibility. I am thinking to upgrade to a ps4, (I am going to buy a optical digital to 3.5mm adapter if that will be the case.)In other words, I pretty much wanted to buy a headset that is easy to setup, universal, wired and no need of buying extra adapters to make it work on the devices I needed this to work with.Review:I had this headphone for a day and I feel pretty satisfied with it, it has all the features I want.Pros(that I personally enjoy):•Over ear (I'm a fan of over-ear headphones)•Adjustable bass and treble•Adjustable game and chat•Mute option•Doesn't pickup background noise (as well as my breathing)•Comfortable on the top of the head•Noise canceling•Able to hear in-game sounds (So you don't have to disturb other people that can be living with you as well as for a better gaming experience.)•Compatible with my phone via the 3.5mm jack by removing the headset with the amplifier.•The chat boost feature helped a lot while playing competitive games•Bendable microphone;it feels like you are trying to bend a desk-lamp (which honestly feels satisfying)•Fits my large, roundish head and it doesn't feel like breaking•Top of the headphone gives it the feel of a baseball•I hear lots of "hidden sounds" that are in the games that I am playing which nobody could've noticed if you play with the sound output to your TV, it can help with a lot of multiplayer games.Cons(That I have experienced within a day of use):•My teammates are complaining that my mic sounds too low, even with the mic set to 5 on the ps3. (Due to how low it is, the "small mic" on the slider of the amplifier is pretty much useless.)*•The aux cord that came with the headphones which connects to the amplifier is too small for me•The hearing yourself feature while chatting works, but too low to even notice (It is a con for me because I live with other people and because of how good the noise canceling is, I can't even hear myself, so you may talk too loud.)•Headphones don't feel comfortable on my ears after 3 hours of use because of the way my ears are shaped, however, I can play at least 3 hours with it without getting a break from the headphones•Ears get hot when you get into competitive moments in a game•The material inside the earpads aren't comfortable.•A lot of bass makes the audio quality bad (I am a huge fan of bass)•The cord of the headset if you want to use this on mobile only could've been longer by a few inches so the cord won't feel short while walkingSound Quality:Sound Quality is average, even with the Treble and bass boost enchantments. I don't know if it is just me, but when the treble is sent to fully max, you can hear some cracks if you pay attention to the sound, however, if you put it down a little bit from the max, you don't hear the cracks anymore.The sound feels a bit "dirty" rather than "clean." This isn't an issue with the RCA since I also notice this while watching some videos with my phone. It is still to the point where it isn't annoying at least.So I have tried to sit and leave these headphones on my ear for an hour and started to ask and answer my own about how it feels when wearing this on my head:Q: Does this feel comfortable on my ears?A: To some extent, however, due to the way my ears are shaped, I can feel the pading outside the speaker of the headphones, and it feels like it will get uncomfortable on the ears after long use.Q: Does the mic get in the way from my field of view?A: No, thankfully this mic is bendableQ: Does it feel tight?A: A little bit because of the material inside the earpads, it doesn't feel like it is going to break despite how big my head is.Q: Do I notice this on my entire head after a period of time?A: Yes, my ears heat up a little bit.Q: Is it something I want to wear because I notice it on my head?A: Yes, although for even more comfort, I may buy thicker earpads with better material inside to make my experience better.Despite this headset being made a few years ago, it is still a very good item that can be bought today that is compatible with a variety of devices. The cons are something that i can deal with. I would totally recommend this to a friend. The headphones feel like they should be sold at a $40-$50 price range which is actually how much it is priced here (Edit: price for this headset went up). This headset is definitely worth the buy.Note: I only had this for a day, I have no idea how much it will last me, yet. I will update this in case any problem occurs with this headsetEdit: Added sound quality since i had this for 3 days and I had fixed the issue of the uncomfortable ears by ripping some cheapy, but comfortable material earpads from a broken on-ear headset and put it inside the earpads (luckily the earpads from the turtle beach keeps it in place and it is unnoticeable because of the color)*Edit 2: So I have tried them for 2 weeks, I feel like I can get a better headset, sometimes when there are intense situations in a video game that I was playing, the bass doesn't go well with these headsets since it feels like the bass doesn't have a lot of room which gives me some discomfort because this not only affects the sound quality, but the dynamic chat boost would turn off making it harder to hear my teammates and it makes me want to put my game volume lower, if I do turn the bass lower, it helps a bit, but it doesn't sound "right" because I feel like the audio quality still acts up even with the bass lower. I also fixed the issue with not hearing myself, it doesn't work when it is in the "small mic" portion of the slider which my teammates tells me that it is the best option to use because I am not too loud nor too quiet (my teammates told me that I sound too loud if I have the "large mic" function on), however, since you can't hear yourself at the "small mic" mode, you may talk really loud which may distract other people that may live with you, I would usually have to wear the headphones in like a one-ear style just to limit how loud my voice gets. I don't know if it is just me, but for some reason, I feel like the fabric on the earpads feel harder the longer I play.Edit 2, Mobile Review:I don't like how these sound on mobile, sound quality itself is probably okay, however, the thing that I don't like about this headset on mobile is that everything sounds far away in comparison to other headsets I have. Music while playing games is alright since the bass from the game effects in a way "cancels" out the far away effect, I would recommend a 4-ringed 3.5mm aux cord if you want to use this function.I will update this post as soon as I am starting to have problems with this headset or if I find anything to help me improve my experience with

Puis avec le retour que son copain m'a fait je me suis laissé tenté...[/mode je raconte ma vie]Le casque est plus petit que je ne l'aurai pensé mais il tiens parfaitement bien, le micro est super (amovible à souhait), après pour le son, alors certes c'est pas des super bass mais ça rend pas trop mal, j'en suis content)La télécommande est très grosse mais ça ne dérange absolument pas, on peut contrôler les TREBLE et BASS (j'y reviendrai), le volume "musique/jeu",etc) indépendamment du volume de Skype (j'ai testé que celui là mais apparemment compatible TS,...)On peut couper le micro, se mettre en mode appel (j'ai pas trop compris à quoi ce mode servait, surement quand on le branche à un smartphone), en faible sensibilité ou en forte sensibilité; un dernier potentiomètre sert à augmenter ou diminuer le retour de son propre micro dans son propre casque, l'effet est fort utile je trouveOn trouve différent câble pour Xbox, ps3 ou PC.... je l'utilise sur mon pc: alors OUI les câbles sont trop long (vu qu'ils sont aussi prévu pour les consoles) mais sur le fil on a un scratch qui permet de garde le surplus de câble enroulé, donc c'est niquel.Je me suis fait une petite frayeur car la télécommande ne marchais pas quand je l'ai branché (pas de réglage TREBLE, BASS...) mais en allant sur le site de turtle beach on trouve une explication de comment faire pour que ça marcheEn plus je peux laisser le casque brancher les enceintes que j'utilise sur le pc marche quand même (avec mon ancien casque c'était la galère à chaque fois fallait débrancher...)Voilà, en gros un très bon casque avec comme petit point négatif: les bass un peu trop faible à mon goût et peut etre que je le sens un peu trop sur ma tête mais ça vaut un 5 étoiles pour ma part ;)

Llevo ya unos tres meses con ellos y son todo lo que esperaba de ellos y más.Cómodos, se escuchan estupendamente, no se que puedan tener otros de gama alta que no tengan estos.Cuando me llaman al móvil, si estoy jugando, lo conecto al adaptador que trae y puedo hablar cómodamente con ellos, además puedes configurar los distintos volúmenes para tu mayor comodidad.Tiene otra función para escucharte a ti mismo y así no andar gritando al verse tu voz amortiguada por los cascos envolventes.

Got my first pair for Christmas with my PS4 the year it came out, and the finally died earlier this year because I couldn't look where I was going, and stepped on the cord while I was wearing it. Popped the cord. Got my second set now because of how reliable they are. Amazing sound quality, according to my friends, the mic is really good on their end as well, love that I can listen to music, answer phone calls, control mic sensitivity, and to top it off, I can wear them all day. Comfortable is an understatement for sure! Only headset I'm buying from now on, and around $80 every 4-5 years is a great deal to me. Perfect! (And the ability to turn up game and chat volume individually useful too).

I had the gamecom 780 headset before this one, but since it was usb input headset (and I broke the headband when taking them out O.o), when I bought the PS4 I had to look for a headset with 3.5mm jack, so that I could easily connect them to the dualshock, so around 5 months I bought this headset(circa 45 or 50 Pounds)the main uses I give these are PC gaming( mostly CS:GO), PS4, and music listening (wether on PC, phone, or music player).now this next part might be confusing without you seeing the mini-amp (refered troughout as MA) so go here:http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/ps3-headsets/ear-force-px22/344and click on how does it work under details so you can see a picture showing the different inputs/outputs the mini-amp has.just to make it clear, YOU DON'T NEED TO USE THE MA FOR THE HEADSET TO WORK, but you dont have any controller over volume or something else without it.This headset has the MA, wich is not more than a 'sound mixer', where you can control the high(trebles) frequencies, low(bass) frequencies, game and chat volumes.Let me give you an IMPORTANT HEADS UP: in order for this MA to actually work, you need to have it connect to some sort of energy-given component, like a PC or a portable battery used to charge your phone on the go, with an usb port since the MA needs to be powered in order to work, and if you have both MA usb and 3.5 mm jack connected to the same device, you wont be able to use the treble and bass wheels, wich is a shame. When listening to music and wanting to play with treble and bass, I have to plug the MA's usb to my portable battery, and the 3.5mm to where the music is being played (cellphone, mp3 player,PC,etc...)Given this, I use the mini-amp only when playing PC games just to adjust the volume of the game and my microphones volume, and I just connect the headset directly to my dualshock when playing on ps4, same goes for when I am listening to music in my phone.I would like to mention that with both treble and bass wheels you can get really awsome and dedicated frequencies, depending on what you want to listen to, this is specially awsome when listening to music (get them trebles to the max when listening to guitar solossss!!)overall, this headset's biggest strenght is that you can use it wether you play on pc, consoles, or just to listen to music on your music player and phones(oh! you can actually use the microphone when someone calls you on your phone, making this a great cellphone-hands-free device as well).some other relevant points are:*noise cancelling*comfortable,*good audio quality*headband (seems) very resistant*the mini-amp gives you some sound flexibilitythe not so good things:*the material for the cable doesn't seem the most resistant, so and the cable, especially near the 3.5mm, carefully*the MA is to much trouble to put to work when using the headset on the Playstation or music player.for the price I payed I'm a satisfied costumer, hence the 5 stars, though the MA is too much trouble too use most of the time it doesn't take quality off of the product since thi is a good quality headset, it just adds to it.I recommend them if your uses for this headset are listed above.IF YOU ARE BUYING A HEADSET JUST TO PLAY FPS GAMES ON PC, I dont recommend this headset, buy a 7.1 headset.
