VSSL Cache Durable Aluminum Container with Flashlight

Yea, I really bought this. It's really cool and very well made. The problem is i have yet to find a use for it. I'm a gear junkie so I'm glad I bought it so don't get me wrong but I look at it every day hoping to come up with something. I know I will.

Two out of six VSSL caches that I bought had a defective flashlight / lantern / torch.The first defective one was this exact model. Its defect was that the center LED, the red LED, would not work at all,, which means the four-mode flashlight only worked in modes 1, 2, and 4 (high, low, and SOS)., not in mode 3 (red light). Also, in mode 4 (SOS), only three out of the four LEDs would light (the red center LED is supposed to also work in SOS mode, but it didn't.The second VSSL (out of my six total) had a different defect, but also with the flashlight / lantern / torch. On the second one, I was able to unscrew the plastic battery compartment lid to put in the battery, but then it was impossible to put the plastic battery cover back on, and an aluminum sleeve (or aluminum ring) came out of the flashlight end cap and refused to go back in, no matter what I did. This was brand-new, right out of the box, and I spent an HOUR trying to put the cylinder back together again, but the end cap was in three pieces that refused to go together. Again, I have six of these VSSL containers, so I know perfectly well how to install the battery cap (it's not rocket science!), but this unit was defective. A third issue, which might have been the source of the problems, was that the O-ring on the battery compartment was in pieces when the VSSL arrived (brand-new), with rubber gunk (bits and pieces of the O-ring) stuck to the threads of the flashlight end-cap, which contributed to the difficulty of installing the end-cap. I couldn't wash the rubber gunk off the flashlight end-cap because it has electronics inside, and with the battery compartment cover stubbornly refusing to go on (I tried for an hour!), it would be impossible to wash the gunk off the threads without getting water in the exposed battery compartment.So, two out of six VSSL caches I bought were defective, that's a 33% defect rate, pretty poor for something allegedly made in Canada. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the flashlight / lantern / torch end-cap is made in China.On the positive side, the aluminum container is sturdy, and the compass top-cap works.Also, Amazon provided a prompt replacement of the first defective VSSL cache (this exact model). Now I also have to return the second defective VSSL (2nd out of six that I received).

The aluminum is very nice and the size is perfect, but the O-ring on the battery compartment was destroyed upon arrival. Extra O-rings would be nice as I am skeptical the others will last.
