Encouragement to Stay the Course
Wherever you are in your faith, this testimony will encourage you to stay the course. The author shared his failures and ultimate lessons learned, as well as the goodness of God in every situation. I was inspired, as well as encouragd by this book. It not a story for a Missionary. It is a story for the Believer.

A great story of faith. It was interesting to see the way God expanded his faith about God’s provision over time.

A Radical Approach to Missions
As a missionary I was greatly encouraged by reading The Autobiography of Hudson Taylor: Missionary to China. While unsure if I agree with Hudson Taylor on all things, it is undeniable that he gave his life to proclaim Christ to the Chinese.Hudson Taylor left for China as a young, 21 year old missionary in September of 1853. He was a radical man who believed that God would always provide and tells of many times when just at the last minute God would come through. He believed most missionaries were too worldly and took measures to live as simply as possible."I am more than ever convinced that if we were to take the directions of our Master and the assurances He gave to His first disciples more fully as our guide, we should find them to be just as suited to our times as as to those in which they were originally given."He took on dressing as the Chinese men to better assimilate into the culture and become more accepted, a move that also wasn't without its critics. He also studied Mandarin to be able to communicate in the native tongue of the people he worked among. After becoming ill and having to return to England for a time, Taylor gained a vision for a new mission focused on evangelizing inland China. Upon returning the China Inland Mission was born. This autobiography is the account of some of Hudson Taylor's experiences, the joys and sorrows, the obstacles and triumphs, the prayers and miracles, that led to the formation of China Inland Mission.

Superlative Adventure Story!
For years I knew Hudson Taylor only as 'the missionary who opened China'... Then one Sunday after a church service, I browsed through the church library and skimmed through this little gem. I eventually purchased my own copy, and it's one of the greatest adventure stories I've ever read - right up there with Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe and the Christian allegory, Pilgrim's Progress. Taylor's memoirs surpasses these books of fiction by being a real-life, true narrative of his desire to fulfill his dream (and God's calling) of going to China to spread the Gospel of Christ and serve in a professional medical capacity. As a very young Englishman, he threw away his feather bed and put himself on a strict diet of oatmeal and rice in preparation for his future in China among the poor and often starving. Little did he know that sleeping on a wooden floor with a diet of gruel was luxury compared to what he was to endure in China. His gift for writing makes his journaling a real pleasure to read and I cannot recommend this little action-packed story high enough. I wish every young teen was made to read it today in this country of entitlements, welfare, hand-outs, and liberal irresponsibility. Real advice for genuine Seekers struggling with no direction or purpose for their lives...

I could have wished for more information about the Christian work in China by some of the missionaries as told by Hudson Taylor.

Inspiring!
Amazing book! So inspiring to read, and so encouraging to my own heart and ministry. J. Hudson Taylor loved the Lord so deeply, and believed Him for every single need. Highly recommended for every believer and for all seekers.

Breathes the Acts of the Apostles
I previously read a biography on Hudson Taylor but it was spiritually refreshing (as well convicting) to travel with the man himself through the firsthand telling of his missionary endeavours. An enduring legacy has he left us well summed up in this short book.

Very Interesting
A good autobiography of the famous man, written honestly and with many personal touches. Very visual descriptions of his life before and during his missions.

Inspirational!
A great book that gives the reader an inside perspective into a man's life shaped with challenges, both spiritual and cultural. More importantly, it gives the reader great hope and encouragement that God can use an individual just as he did Hudson Taylor, if he/she gives himself/herself wholly and without reservation to God. Although I would caution the reader to understand that God's plan for each child will be different and unique to that individual.

Encouragement for Christians
In next decade or two China would have largest population of Christian and now experience exponential increase in no of believers... Little we know about the faithful servants like Hudson Tylor or Mr. Burns who had spent entire life to fulfill the call of God. The power of God manifested through obedience of His humble servants.
