Identiv uTrust SmartFold SCR3500C Type C USB Smart Card Reader

Excellent product that works as advertised.It worths the money.

Works right out of the bag and very sleek and portable. I love how this folds up and takes up such little space in my small computer cable pouch. It’s a great value too. No issues in its functionality with and reading my ID card.

A friend and I purchased one of these separately about 2 weeks apart. His had the Identiv brand, mine has the Hirsch brand. From what I can tell, the company is legit and their own website shows the Identiv product, but I cannot find any link between the two companies at time of review (July 2026).It connects fine with Type-C. Its a little stiff, but functionally works. When folded up, the reader portion is a little bigger than a 2x4 standard Lego brick minus the cable. Probably will buy another to have in my travel bag. Worked with both my CAC and ALT Token.

I needed this specifically because my Macbook has only USB C ports. This card reader does the job. Great for travel as it is very low profile and folds up nearly. This could be a con as this thing is small ( pictured aboove folded, with a Pentex Energel 0.7mm ballpoint pen).3 months in, I didn’t close it down, and either sat on it or put something on top of it and one of the folding arms snapped. It still actually works and reads my card, but i gotta play around with it. So if you get this make sure to break it down after use so the arms don’t snap!

Especially good for Apple devices. Highly recommended.
