Awesome by itself, or as a compliment to larger set
I really am glad I got this. I also got the Snap Circuits "Jr" kit, and was briefly concerned that I had duped a purchase, because that kit has a motor and a fan, also. The good thing is that this unit has a three-battery powercell, while the other unit has only a 2 battery cell, and it cannot make the fan spin fast enough to take off. We've used this power cell on the other board, and made two fans take off, which was fun. Also, the fans are a bit delicate, so its good to have a backup in case something breaks... he's 5, and he's reasonably careful, but he has a younger brother, and things can happen. Over all, this was a good addition to the larger set, and we've combined the components that come with this set that the components in the larger set. The units snap together, and seem quite durable, except for the fan itself, with seems a bit delicate, but holds up to normal use very well. I will be looking for more kits in the near future, and look forward to a lot of fun with these things!

The best intro kit that is fun to play
I own 3 snap circuit kits - Extreme, 300, and Lights. I got this little mini kit, so my son would have something fun to play with in his room and stop bringing up the other kits and getting pieces everywhere. This is hands down the most fun circuit in all the kits. The price is reasonable. And it is a great little test/intro kit to see if you child could get into snap circuits before spending the money on the bigger kits. It comes with what you see in the picture - a small 5x7 snap board, a motor, a fan blade, a 3-snap wire, a button switch, and a battery holder that needs 3 AA batteries. It also comes with a piece of paper with 4 circuit variations on it. This is officially on my list for toys to get for boys for the birthday. My son is 4 years old, by the way. His little sister who is not even 2 figured out how to position the fan blade atop the motor and loves to play it. It works like this, push the button switch to get the motor going, once released the fan blade flies straight up off the motor almost hitting the ceiling. It's fun, and we have done lots of circuits around here.

Not bad, but better to get the 101 project kit
For what you get and what it does it is overpriced, especially when compared to the 101 kit.Anyway I bought 2 of these as projects for a 3, 5, 6 and 9 year old to be made in teams. They were super excited about it AND it did what it said it would do. So I was very happy it got them excited about electronics (sort of). The novelty does where off pretty quick and they were all like, what else does it do.I did however by the 101 kit with many more projects in it and that has been a bigger hit. So this fan kit was a big waste of money in comparison.

Girls love it too
Holiday shopping always reminds me of the huge division in 'boys' and 'girls' toys and leaves me wondering what to buy for my niece and nephew that they will like without just falling into marketing traps. When shopping for my niece, I try to buy a broad range of items. She is 6 years old now and I do buy her some pure fun things (stuffed toys/dolls) but also wanted to buy learning items, especially things that will help her develop skills that boys toys tend to develop (spatial relations, etc). After purchasing the Lego friends house and a Frozen doll I settled on this as a sort of add-on gift, having no idea how she would react. She was a little confused at first. The packaging is certainly not flashy and she wasn't sure what it could do. However, as soon as it was open and she learned she could build a flying saucer, she was hooked. This kit in particular is very simple with just a 6 or 7 pieces that snap together lego-style. She (with a little assistance) was able to put it together in about 10 minutes. From there she and her little brother had great fun setting it off. At one point she exclaimed "this is actually a fun toy!" Then she wanted to build the other activities in the kit which includes reversing the pieces so that it becomes a fan. Through this she had to learn about how the battery power works because when she moved the connector pieces to other spots on the baseboard, it no longer spun the wheel. For the price, the fun and the fact that she was actually learning I definitely give this product top ratings and will be buying more in the series.

Cheap fun toy
This was bought for my 5 year old old as Christmas gift. He loved it and it totally stole the show compared to his other pricier gifts. It is easy to build and put together. My 2 year even got a kick out of it. The downside is the quality is low. The red blade cracked the same day and by the end of the week had broken to the point it was unusable. It is lightweight and very thin plastic. The base of the toy was made of a thicker plastic and very much high quality. I am not sure if they sell replacement parts. The kids had a blast playing with it while it lasted. It was such a hit with boys that I will purchase another one similar to this in the future.

easy enough that he could figure it out on his ...
This was purchased as a gift. My 10 year old son loves putting things together and this has been a hit with his friends when they come over too. All parts were there, easy enough that he could figure it out on his own, but challenging enough to make him really enjoy it and ask questions (thanks google for answering some of the tough ones for me!). Snap circuits are a great inexpensive and educational yet still fun gift.

Great intro to electricity/circuits!
Bought this for my 5 year old daughter. I was concerned it would be too challenging for her or she wouldn't be interested in circuitry, but she had a blast! The parts are well put together and the projects are interesting and easy. By the end of our first session my daughter was able to explain to me how polarity works and explain a few things about how circuits workThe instructions are easy to comprehend and were great for teaching the importance of following the manual when building these types of projects. Great learning toy, I'll definitely be getting more from this series.

Wonderful fun learning tool!
My son loves this! He is 4, and he has autism, and loves cause and effect, especially when he can really see how and why something is happening. This was a wonderful way to introduce circuits and electricity and was loads of fun watching that disc fly. My only disappointment was in the extra projects, it would be nice if they could design a disc that the paper/cardboard can be secured to for the one that you draw the design on. He really loves how it changes from a launcher to a fan but reversing the polarity of the batteries. I will definitely be buying more of these sets to expand on his learning.

Lots of fun
Great toy. Grandkids had fun with it. Did not want to put it down and go skiing. 15 yr old girl enjoyed playing with it as well. Would have given 5 stars but flying saucer breaks easily. Very poor quality the saucer however the other parts are strong and well made. Need to improve flying saucer. It flies really well but lands and gets damaged. Encouraged kids to try and catch it. Otherwise a great toy.

A simple, low cost introduction to electronics with interchangeable options.
This is a simple circuit meant for introducing my kids to electronics. There's nothing fancy about it, but for the price it's a good little tool. The kids have played with it several times, adjusting how the circuit is made and have shown interest in other options. My six year old has started showing interest in robotics, so this was meant to be a very early starting point before we get into the good stuff.

Flying saucer broke on the second flight. Can not find a replacement for it.
