Must-read for K-pop fans
Candace wants to fulfill her dream, but it has its challenges.Candace Park is a 15-year-old Korean American girl whose parents pressure her to behave like the perfect Korean American daughter. She reluctantly plays the viola, even though her true passion is singing. Candace dreams of becoming a singer, and her chance comes when she sees an ad from S.A.Y, the company responsible for creating the popular SLK K-pop boyband. S.A.Y is searching for talented individuals to audition and become trainees for a K-pop girl band that they are developing as the female version of SLK. Candace's friends, Ethan and Imani, also K-pop enthusiasts, encourage her to audition. After auditioning, Candace is the only one selected to become a trainee. With the support of her friends, Candace convinces her parents to allow her to go to Seoul, Korea, to train with S.A.Y. However, Candace soon discovers that the world of K-pop is more complex and challenging than she initially thought.Hold on to your seats because I have the inside scoop on a fantastic book that will take you on a wild adventure! Set in modern-day New Jersey and Seoul, this book is jam-packed with thrilling twists and turns that will keep you hooked until the end.But that's only part of it - the book takes you on a journey through Korean culture and language, and you won't believe how much you'll learn along the way! You'll be a pro from Korean manners to K-pop terms in no time. And if you're anything like me, you'll be thrilled that the book references your favorite K-pop bands like Blackpink. However, my ultimate favorite K-pop band of all time is BTS.The characters in the book are equally captivating. Candace is an absolute firecracker, and you'll find yourself rooting for her every step of the way. Imani is a quirky character that will leave you in splits, while Ethan is the life of the party. And let's not forget about Candace's amazing parents, who only want what's best for her. Now, let's talk about the girl trainees - these girls are seriously talented! Binna is like a big sister to Candace, and Jinjoo is simply adorable. Aram is a stunning character with a heart of gold, while Helena may start as a bit of a meanie, but she'll grow on you. This book is an absolute must-read for K-pop fans who love a story that inspires them to be themselves and be a little extra! Trust me, you won't be able to put it down.Happy Reading, Paige ❤️ 📚

LOVED IT!!
If I could give this book six stars, I'd do it. How about 7? You know what? I'm just going to fling out a thousand happy stars to this gem of a book that got me and my five-year-old son hooked on BlackPink.I first came across this book on Instagram (where I see books and buy them because I'm a trash human being with no self-control) and promptly ordered it. I knew from the K-pop vibes it was giving off as I opened the Amazon box that I would have to drop all planned reads for this one. The pull was so strong. My hands shook. My body shivered with the expectation. The world tilted on its axis. I was ready. This book follows Candace, a simple Korean-American from Jersey who enters a K-pop talent call and much to her surprise, is chosen to attend a training camp in Seoul, South Korea. She enters the competitive and grueling world of K-pop Bootcamp where the food is scarce, the boys are walled, and the girls are fierce. She quickly learns how much she wants to debut, and what she's willing to sacrifice to get there. So, I don't know much K-pop other than BTS because I see those dolls at Barnes and Noble whenever I go buy books to quell my depression. I quickly began looking up the songs and groups referenced and now I am a BlackPink superfan and even began to Etsy some fan stickers and I am not ashamed. I am a 38-year-old American and I AM NOT ASHAMED.Anyhow, this book was super fun. We get a glimpse into the world of K-pop and what fans and trainees really do go through. It's eye-opening and inspirational and heartbreaking all in one. I really do wish Mr. Lee continues the story, with an ending like that! But I would be satisfied even if he didn't. I loved this book so much. I hope you all enjoy it too!H-h-how you like that? You going to like that duh duh duh duh duh:D

Asian American Girl Power - You Love to See It
You don’t have to be a K-Pop fan to get Stephan Lee’s K-Pop Confidential. You do have to be up for a YA story that centers a Korean-American girl from Fort Lee, New Jersey following her dreams all the way to Seoul. I loved that Candace isn’t just an AP student forced to play viola (yep, we’ve all been there, well except for getting 5s on the tests), she’s also talented and fierce and funny.Going inside the world of K-Pop trainee programs, Lee doesn’t shy away from the uglier parts: a system that chews up and spits out talent without giving it a second thought, that prioritizes boys over girls, that imposes crazy diets on young people who are busting their butts all day in dance rehearsal. And yet, what K-Pop Confidential wraps around that is a story about a teenager realizing her own value, her own power. Candace never loses herself as she climbs to the top, even when it’s debut or die trying. I cheered for her the whole way through. With glamour, romance, and sometimes a sharp dose of reality, K-Pop Confidential is an irresistible debut, and so flipping fun. I can’t wait to read more from Stephan Lee.

Enjoyable and eye opening
I thoroughly enjoyed this story of an idol trainee who struggles in the daunting world of Kpop. The author has done a great job painting a picture of the stressful lives these stars lead and the price they pay for the fame. I particularly liked the unexpected twists and turns in the story that made me keep reading. I definitely look forward to reading the sequel.

I’m a huge kpop fan and I knew a little bit about the behind the scenes in the kpop Industry (trainee program) but this book helped me to understand a lot more. The story is very catchy, very fast to read which I love, the characters are amazing. There are a lot of things happening in this book definitely buy it and read it.It even has a little dictionary for non kpop fans.
