A New Dimension of Kitchen Helpers
A New Dimension of Kitchen HelpersThis new Express Food Chopper by Brieftons opens up a new dimension for efficient and enjoyable work in the kitchen. It provides a novel, quick, elegant, and low-cost solution to the ever repeating boring task of chopping vegetables.Compared to other kitchen helpers, e.g. electrical tools or spiralizers, the Express Food Chopper is priced low and yet highly effective and easier to work with. There is really nothing to be set up or plugged in; you reach for it and it is ready to go. Cleaning and storing is equally easy and quick. While I like cooking, I do not particularly like spending all the time it often takes to chop vegetables with a kitchen knife. And then there is always that tension not to cut your fingers. With the Express Food Chopper, you can chop up a very broad variety of vegetables in much less time and with less waste and less work for dishwashing. For example, I like making guacamole. With the Express Food Chopper, I can throw all ingredients into its bowl at once -- together -- and in the form of very big chunks: avocado halves, onions just quartered or halved, mango halves, tomatoes just quartered, cilantro just with the stems removed, etc. Then, a few pushes on the big green piston and I can watch how everything gets chopped up more with each push until I have reached the desired grain size. Spices and liquids, such as oil or vinegar, can also be effectively mixed in. From there, the guacamole goes directly into the bowl that will be on the table, without using the other bowl I would normally have used (and having to clean later) just for mixing everything up.When I first saw it, I was skeptical whether the blades would able to cut anything that is already small, e.g. a clove of garlic. Would that just "fall through the cracks"? No "cracks" here. Owing to the clever design, the blades effectively reach every spot in the bowl where that clove of garlic might be sitting and mince it to really small pieces. After a few pushes on the central piston, everything -- from big to small chunks of vegetable -- is chopped up to about the same particle size. Of course, the ultimate particle size will be somewhat larger than that you can get from e.g. a garlic press or food processor. Most of the Express Food Chopper is made from very sturdy ("smoke-") transparent plastic. This material is great for the purpose as it allows to view and control the particle size of the food as it is being processed. It also is very sturdy and it has a surface that is smooth and, therefore, very easy to clean just with hot water. As the material is very hard compared to other plastic, expected to be correspondingly scratch resistant and retain its smoothness for long time. The piston mechanics that spins the blade is made from equally hard and sturdy plastics. It appears that the surface hardness of the material allows the mechanism to operate with low friction and low wear rate. The part that holds the blades has an adequate design. The only concern here maybe to handle this part safely. What I would suggest for version 2.0 is that the upper part of the blade shaft gets a surface or shape design that facilitates holding it firmly during cleaning. I have had my Express Food Chopper for several months now, and while I am using it frequently, it does not show any traces of wear. The blades themselves are made from stainless steel. Given the overall very sturdy and stable construction, my sense is that the lifetime of the Express Food Chopper is mainly limited lifetime of the blades -- and that should be a long time.

Outstanding Food Chopper
This is the most outstanding food chopper I have ever used. I have a large food processor and I have a smaller electric chopper and I now prefer this chopper over both of them. I make a lot of soups and with my arthritis getting worse as I age it is sometimes difficult to chop the veggies I need. My food processor is heavy and difficult to get out, set up and clean and since I don't have a lot of counter space I cannot leave it out, and the smaller one is useless for the volume of veggies I need. I read everything listed about the Brieftons 8.5 cup Food Chopper and was impressed. I have other Brieftons products and am very happy with them so I thought I would give this Chopper a try. I have never been so surprised or impressed with the outcome and ease of use of any other product. I think I was most impressed with how easy it is to control the size of the veggies I'm chopping. If you are not very careful a food processor will give you mush in a matter of seconds, but with this chopper doing one spin of the blades at a time and checking will give you the perfect size you need. With having three chopping blades it made short work of a whole bag of carrots and cut them in the exact size I needed for my soup. I would highly recommend this product to anyone, but especially to older people or people who find it difficult to chop veggies for an extended period of time. I can finally say goodbye to my hand cramps. This chopper is lightweight, easy to clean, has a locking blade and takes up relatively little space. I'm able to leave this on my counter and have found that I am using it almost daily. Today I'm making a batch of coleslaw which will probably take me about 5 minutes to chop a whole head of cabbage.

Good tool for specific purposes
First of all, this review is being written after a few uses of the chopper, rather than exhaustive use over many months. In general, I like it, and will continue to use it. It does certain things very well, and has some nice features, but it's not a replacement for cutting things up with a knife when precision control of the size of the resulting pieces is desired.I chopped onions, carrots, and celery with it. For onions, it makes very nice finely chopped onion bits, but it's not easy to make uniformly-sized pieces that are larger. For carrots and celery, it seemed easier to stop at the right time to have larger pieces. The design is like a tiny food processor with wing blades installed. The chopper makes very quick work of what you put into it, needing only a few quick pushes of the plunger to chop everything. It has some nice features, like the non-skid bottom on the base and the button that locks the plunger in the down position to make it smaller for storage. The design makes it pretty easy to clean, though you're not supposed to immerse the top portion that contains the plunger mechanism.Pros:- Easy to use- Chops very quickly and easily- Non-skid base provides good stability- Easy to cleanCons:- Difficult to achieve a uniform size of the chopped veggies, if not going for a fine chop.

Poor Performance
We were extremely disappointed with this chopper. The Tupperware mini chopper is far and away a better choice. I chose this for more capacity, but the chopping power is nil. If I chop my food any smaller before putting it in, I may as well do it all by hand. It can't handle much! Finally the push handle cracked, and that was on soft zucchini. I am surprised at all the great reviews it got, which led me to purchase it in the first place, but be warned!

Time-Saving Kitchen Gadget
I recently bought the Brieftons Express Vegetable Chopper, and it has quickly become an essential in my kitchen.EfficiencyThis manual chopper makes quick work of chopping vegetables, fruits, and herbs. It’s perfect for preparing ingredients for salads, salsa, pesto, and more.CapacityThe 2-litre capacity is ample for most recipes, allowing me to chop large quantities in one go.Ease of UseIt’s very easy to use and clean, which is a big plus. The blades are sharp, and the pull cord mechanism works smoothly.SummaryOverall, this chopper is a fantastic tool for anyone looking to save time in the kitchen. Highly recommended for its efficiency and convenience.

Love it !
I read all the reviews for similar items and purchased this item. I am so happy that I did, it is perfect. It even chops a few garlic pieces into very small bits...now that is really telling you something! Chops anything you put into it perfectly and cleans in a flash. Thx, I love it.

Really Handy!
Neither me or my girlfriend have "cheffy" knife skills so if we need to chop a large amount of veggies we typically have to drag the food processor out of the cupboard. As this in itself is a bit of a pain, we decided to try out one of these a potential time saver. I have to say it has worked out perfectly!Obviously you have to work within its limitations, so don't try chucking whole onions or carrots in there, but if you chop them up in quarters or eighths and don't overload it there's no problem at all. To be honest we didn't really expect it to work at all with carrots but as long as you're careful with the size and quantities it will deal with them with no problem. The feedback from the "plunger" will tell you if you've pushed things too far, so don't just start hammering on it if it doesn't want to move, just remove a few items and try again. After a while you learn to judge what to put in at a time, so just err on the side of caution to start with. You can get a finer chop (or even turn it into mush!) with a food processor, but this device certainly chops fine enough for stews, casseroles, curries, etc.Cleaning is very quick compared to a food processor, which also adds to the convenience. We don't have a dishwasher, so any reduction in time spent standing at the sink is always appreciated! At the time of this review we've had the device 7 months and it isn't showing any signs of breaking but as I say we are careful to work within its limits. Also it hasn't become permanently stained orange from chopping carrots which is a nice surprise, although it wouldn't have bothered us if it had.Overall we've found it a great addition to the kitchen and would definitely recommend it!
