Pretty easy patterns after a bit of organization.
I got a windfall of nice fabric and bought this pattern to make Italian Renn gowns. I'm still not 100% certain if they're supposed to lace up the back, or if they just go on like pinafores. I got out mailing envelopes and put the skirt in one, since it's for all of them, and then if a bodice overlapped I made a copy of its shapes so that I could just go by version. Look at the picture, choose the dress, get the envelope and work according to the shapes inside it. It was helpful to read the instructions: the poofs on the sleeves don't come from specialized chemises, they're sewn onto the sleeve.

Beautifully drafted with detailed directions
Beautifully drafted with detaileddirections. The multi-sized pattern is a bit difficult to work with and I suggest using a non-woven light weight 1 inch grid to trace the pattern. The non-woven pellon with the grid helps when fine tuning the fit. This pattern is not for the beginner level sewing enthusiast, it is for those who sew at an advanced level. The pattern is historically accurate and truly reflects the sumptuousness of the Italian Renaissance. The pattern is designed for members of the Society for Creative Anachronism and any one who wishes to build a garment that is a historical representation of women's clothing of the Italian Renaissance. Be prepared to use a lot of yardage.

Mid-evil pattern
This has good design possibilities. Nice selection of styles. Easy for the experienced seamstress to follow. I subracted a star because the sizing was unclear and it only went to American 18. I needed 22 for my project, and it is a pain to alter that much. (Doable, but a pain).

Just what I needed!
This pattern is geared toward SCA/historical reenactments. If you have little to no experience sewing, you will be confused, as yes, the directions are a little sparse. HOWEVER, I have seen less on a commercial pattern.Overall, I love it. I'm working on a Venetian persona, and this is EXACTLY what I was looking for. The pattern is very modular, which allows for customization. I really needed the pattern for the pieces of the gowns, and intend to piece them together my own way. There is enough, however, to make each of the dresses featured on the cover.Excellent. Will buy from this company again.

Pattern ease of use
I have owned this pattern for a while. I do not like it. The instruction are horrible. The amount of fabric you waste is absolutely a sin. I am reselling mine in it's pristine state. I dislike all of these patterns for the same reasons. I purchased a few different ones. I have used only one and will be selling all the others. Period clothing construction did not waste fabric - if this simple fact was so glaringly disregarded, I don't have much faith in the authenticity. Regarding the instructions- I have decades of sewing experience. I have taken the instructions out several times and put them away after not making any sense. At this point it would be easier to draft a pattern and follow instructions from the Internet. Shame on you.

customs and gown pattterns
I can not wait to use this pattern it looks like fun. I made a renaissance dress before so I know how much work they are. I now have to fine just the right material to get this job done. I look forward to the challenge.
