Is it a little too thick?
I will preface my comments by stating that I am no expert on greases or reels... That being said, I wonder if this grease is a little too thick? Or, am I just applying too much? I do slather on a lot of grease inside my reels, and coat all surfaces to reduce the occurrence of internal corrosion. I really like the consistency (and I will admit that I like the color, but it is of no import, and make fun of my wife for being way too color-conscious). I find it spreads well with a small painter's brush. Overall, I like it, but I find that the reels require more effort to run with this grease compared to the factory grease, which is clear. In practical terms, I did not notice it whilst reeling-in a 6.5 pound catfish recently. In the future, I plan to try using "Master" brand "Faucet and Valve Grease" that I purchased at my local hardware store. It is clear, cheaper, also waterproof (as I suspect ALL greases in reality are) and thinner, looking like and having the consistency of the factory grease (Garcia Mitchell). That's my two cents, for whatever it is worth.
