Installed the drivers off the CD and it worked without issues. Works well with my existing Serial port applications on my laptop. I think it's based on the PL-2303 chipset. Shows up in device manager under "Ports (COM & LPT)" as "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM5)" (for example). The COM port # assigned to this adapter is automatically assigned and seems to increment for each different USB port it's plugged into. The COM port can be reassigned as well, but it seems like once one port # is assigned, it shows as "in use" even though the adapter may not be using it anymore. Port settings can be changed to select 75-128000 bits/sec"

I bought this cable to interface my new Windows Vista PC to my old Garmin GPS-V. So far, so good. The installation was easy. No need to load any drivers from the supplied CD...just connect the cable to a free USB port on the computer and Vista finds and installs the necessary drivers. I haven't had any problems yet loading maps from MapSource to my GPS device. The serial port was mapped to COM4. Would have been nice if the cable had a pair of indicators for Tx/Rx activity but all-in-all a very good product for the price.

I run a couple of devices off of this cable as needed. Each works flawlessly. It may take a little bit more computer savvy then the normal plug and play, just to make sure that the computer is searching for the device on the right com port (took me about ten minutes of frustration to figure out that the device had seated on com11 - switched it to com1 and all well)!! Also - for those who don't read installation manuals (myself included) - it helps to run the install disk first... :) If you need this type of connectivity, I highly recommend! All the best, Jay

I ordered this part to hook up a wideband O2 sensor to my laptop. I wanted the item in the picture (Blue with no screws on the DB9 connector). Upon opening the package, the CD with the drivers was hidden in the packaging without any instructions, no big deal, It's easy to figure out. But the product I recieve is green and the DB9 connector had screws on it. Not a big deal as I just took the screws out. Don't think you're getting what is pictured because you might not, otherwise it's a decent product.

I work almost exclusively with Linux and suddenly needed to to some windows driver development. I run Linux on my development workstation and run windows under a virtual machine. The computer doesn't have a serial port and I needed one to run windbg to do kernel debugging on the windows virtual machine. I saw another review of this device that indicated it worked with Linux, so I decided to try it. I plugged it in and the device showed up without any configuration hassles. I configured VMWare workstation to assign the serial port to the windows VM, booted the VM in debug mode and used my company laptop (running windows native) as the debugger machine with a null modem cable connecting the two. And everything worked the first time!

This is a great product, and out of 50 units i have had 1 not even 1 that failed ! The Raspberry pi3b see theses right away as /dev/ttyUSB0--->xx windows 10 works as well out of the box, on some (not all) of our older windows 7 machines we had to go to their web site and manually download the drivers.

Satisfied our need of connecting a very dated Magic Box - 20 years old (Embroidery Card Writer/Reader) purchased in South Africa to a very modern computer system purchased in Canada, everything communicated to each other just fine - miracles will never cease.

Aunque la publicacion no lo indica, el adaptador funciona bien en windows 10, hay que hacer instalación manual de los dispositivos encontrados, y apuntar hacia los drivers, en mi caso yo utilicé los drivers de win7

buena relación / costo beneficio, igual que los que venden en steren ademas de que llegaron sin problema al domicilio.
