Dr. Naylor's Dehorning Paste (4 oz)

I disbudded my two Nigerian Dwarf/Nubian cross babies with this product. Three months later no signs of any horns and the hair has covered the holes. I think the trick to this product is to make sure to get it applied early when you can just barely feel the buds forming. I've never done this before, but I live very rurally and there are no goat vets under a 100 miles, so I am forced to learn. I read the directions carefully, watched several YouTube vids, enlisted a friend to help me hold them, took a deep breath and pressed on. There were several pro and con opinions on using this method, but I did not want horns for safety reasons so I had no choice but to go with this. Everything went smoothly and there were no problems with the healing. I would have preferred to have a vet perform the procedure, but you do what you have to do when living where services are sometimes non-existent.

After watching a couple YouTube videos, I felt pretty confident about using this dehorning pace. I was a little skeptical because I didn’t think it would actually get the job done, but it seems to have completely eaten through the horn tissue of a buckling that I’ve used it on and I will post pictures once it’s updated And his horns actually don’t go in but so far it looks like it got the job done. I think it’s good for the price. You do have to be very careful because it is pretty messy so I would recommend using gloves and a tip that I saw on YouTube was also to add duct tape over the pace on the horn cavity while it is doing its thing. My baby goats visibly looked uncomfortable, and they kept trying to scratch their head. If you don’t use either duct tape or plastic wrap, it will get everywhere and it will start to burn their hair off wherever it comes to contact with. Also, make sure you have vinegar on hand. Water did not deactivate it. But vinegar neutralized it so you will have to use vinegar to actually neutralize the chemical itself. This pace is really good. I think it’s a better alternative to surgical and hot ironing but you do have to be very cautious because it is a very hard Chemical.

Used on goat kids. Effective on our doe that was only a few days old. Ineffective on our buckling who was dehorned at 11 days old. The conclusion? A great product, BUT YOU MUST DEHORN YOUR KIDS IMMEDIATELY AFTER BIRTH. We applied the paste, a piece of 2 inchpainters tape (all we had) but then we secured it around the head with firmly with vet wrap to avoid slipping, rubbing, or getting in the eyes. Left on for 30-40 mins. And worked great.

We followed the instructions on a nursing calf. We opted to apply duct tape over the sites to protect the momma. The tape only stayed in place for about 6 hours, but it worked to keep the paste from burning momma when nursing. Worked like it was supposed to, both horn buds died out and a couple months later you can barely tell.

My vet suggested this, and after watching a video online I thought that I could make this work for my baby goats. It is necessary to do within the first week of age, so my dwarf goats were quire small. If I could give no stars I would. This product is terrible! My poor little goats were in severe pain, and were flailing in agony. I could not leave it on for the full 30 minutes, because I simply could not bear it. After I cleaned it off, they were in shock for several hours, and huddled in the corner. It caused me such consternation that I literally was sick afterwards. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT if you don't wish to see your livestock in severe pain.

Back in late January 2020 I used this dehorning past on my cow when he was about 3 to 4 weeks old. I left the past on him for 24 hours with ducktape over it and around his head, I saw this method on YouTube. When I took it off I was so afraid, it look like I could see his skull. A ring of scab crust formed around both spots but the center stayed open seeing the skull for 4 weeks. After the 4 weeks he rubbed off the crusty rings and fleshy meat grew over the 2 entire spots and then his hair growth took over and now looks normal. So back on May 10th of this year 2020 I tryed it on 5 of my new born goats, I followed the directions of the dehorning past to the T. I did not leave the past on them no longer than what the directions said to 30 minutes no longer. Well it's September 3rd today and their hair has not grown back and the crusty scab ring is still there with 2 bald skull looking spots on there heads. I'm not sure what to do about it. It's been 4 months now and I wanted to sale my little bucks after they were weaned and dehorned because bucks are very destructive with their horns. But I couldn't because I didn't want to sale them looking like that. Four months still not sure how long it will take for their heads to look normal again.

Does not work, I used as explained and both kids still grew horns. Plus they scream and it’s very messy. Better to stay clear of this.
