Believe the hype! You need this French butter crock
I've never been a fan of butter dishes and even less of a fan of kitchen counter clutter. Do you know what I hate even more? Struggling to spread rock-hard butter on my toast, turning my breakfast into a wrestling match!Enter the French Butter Dish to save the day! This little miracle worker has totally changed my mind. It keeps butter soft, spreadable, and oh-so-ready for action. No more battles with frozen butter! My toast is eternally grateful.Plus, it's like the butter dish is part of a covert ops team – it takes up so little space, you won't even notice it's there. My counters are looking fly and buttery-licious!This little gem is easy to maintain. Start off by leaving a stick of butter out to warm up, then add it to the crock top, fill the bottom with cool water to the fill line on the inside of the bottom container, and add a pinch of salt or vinegar per the instructions to help with keeping your butter fresh, empty and refill the water every couple of days, and that's all there is to it.The directions state that it is possible to use the butter crock for herb butter, however, it will only keep for up to 7 days. I love making chive butter so I'll probably buy a separate crock for small amounts of herb butter. So, yeah, I'll admit it – I'm now a butter dish believer! The French Butter Dish has converted me, and I'm spreading the word (literally!).Color purchased - white to keep things simple.

Butter Crock for aesthetic kitchen
Keeps Butter Perfectly Spreadable and Looks Great on the Counter!I had been on the hunt for a better way to store butter at room temperature without it turning into a greasy mess or going bad. After reading about French butter crocks, I decided to give the Sweese Butter Crock a try—and I’m so glad I did!First off, it’s beautifully made. The ceramic has a clean, modern look and comes in a bunch of colors (I picked the white one, which fits my kitchen aesthetic perfectly). It’s compact but holds about a stick of butter—just the right amount for everyday use.

Solved the butter slipping problem!
So I've owned the Sweese Butter Keeper Crock for about six months now, and think it's absolutely amazing. I've converted from margarine (when I was a kid) to Smart Balance (because it's way better than all that hydrogenated nonsense, and you can cook with it, too) to just plain old butter. The problem was just keeping the stuff in working order. You know, cold butter tears toast instead of spreading nicely. And I could never remember how to bring it out of the fridge 10-30 minutes before I wanted to spread it: not too cold, not too soft (like what happens when you just leave it out at room temp, especially in the summer).Enter Sweese. I got to shopping for a butter boat, one of those rectangular things with a lid, and stumbled on the whole idea of a butter bell/ crock. Sweese had a low cost of entry, so I decided to give it a shot. I got mine in the summer (it's now dead of winter), and it worked like a charm. I was honestly surprised at the non-intuitive way butter would actually stick to the upper portion ("bell") without sliding down into the water, and how the bit of water kept everything fresh. Wonderful analog, low-tech solution! I do notice that the crock does respond to ambient temperature; even with A/C in the summer (around 75 F in the house), the butter is very soft (perhaps more so for some tastes), and in the winter (around 68 F), it's much stiffer but still pleasurably spreadable. The point is, some people may want to hunt around the kitchen for a spot that's more temp-stable and store their crock there (I keep mine by my plates in the cupboard). Now onto the problem referenced in the headline. The only problem I've had with the crock was after my kids washed the crock: the butter had the annoying habit of no longer sticking to the sides of the bell but plopping down into the water well. Kinda gross (no actual spoilage, just the whole 'water and oil don't mix thing'), and definitely not convenient to fish out the butter and repack it into the bell and hope for the best. Finally I decided to re-wash it myself. Problem solved. I suspect that either the kids didn't wash it completely and left just a hint of oily residue in the bell (allowing the ceramic to not have quite the same stickiness to grip the butter). The bottom line is that my crock is back in perfect working order. If any other customers are having a similar problem, I'd simply recommend hand-washing with Dawn in very hot water, then allowing it to dry completely. You should be as satisfied as I am.

Convenient for butter lovers!
The media could not be loaded. This butter container is great for everyday use. It keeps the butter spreadable and the container looks nice to keep on your countertop. I deducted a star because it started to grow mold inside of it after a week or two. I believe it's because of the moisture inside of it from the water. Although, the concept is a great idea and it has worked out great for us so far after cleaning it out!

Highly recommend Sweese’s crock for smooth, creamy butter!
I’m team butta on the counter and this crock helps to keep it perfectly spreadable and fresh on the counter, unlike those hard sticks that play hard to get! I don’t have to wrestle with cold butter anymore— just smooth, creamy goodness every time.I love the size and the quality of this and the fact that I can clean it in the dishwasher. Looks great on the counter!

Impressed with super safe packing that kept my butter bell nicely. Nice box for gifting and instructions were clear. Gave it a wash and packed in a stick of butter...now waiting to see how it spreads, stores and keeps. So far very good.
